cubing on the brain?

Yeah, I'm with paradoxie here. Don't think that it improves all around response times, or reflexes, as if that's what he meant. But of course for the cubing it does that too. Though '3D space' (dunno what's that in english) thinking, general logic and the eye-hand coordination it surely does.

over time does any one think/ is there evidence to say it could improve your IQ score over time? and also i heard a rumor if you can solve a rubik's cube then your a genus, is this true?

I think the cube can be very helpful if you are studying something which has to do with mathematics.. Especially if you are new to the material in for example basic algebra or group theory, the cube was very helpful to me.

I think it is a very good example to help basic concepts like subgroups, the "center" of a group, non-commutative algebras (the cube group is obviously not commutative) or conjugation and commutators..

People in those mathematics classes often ask "what the hell is this structure? how do I have to imagine it? whats an example?".. The cube can be very helpful for this.. I would not call it "effecting the brain" but I think it can be helpful to understand mathematical ideas. Actually, there is a course called "computer algebra" at my university, where especially finite group theory is the subject, and they really use the cube! I mean, they show it in the lecture as an example of a finite group (the cubegroup is a subgroup of the symmetrical group on 48 elements)

Well, people always say "everybody who is good at cubing is good at math"... I dont know if thats true, but so far, I dont know anybody who is good at cubing and actually bad at math :-)

Yeah. I've been trying to teach my friend F2L for a while now. He still doesn't even get how to solve a simple separated pair. It's 3 moves, but he does like x2 y' z2 then does like, U and D then z x2 R.
And yes, he's bad at math. :x

EDIT: Okay I was kinda exaggerating, he can get a separated pair but it takes him like over 10 sec...He averages like 1:15 with LBL.

i also think it might play a role in problem solving skills especially the intuitive cfop.

and about the cube making you a genius, you can probably train a monky to solve a cube.that would be fun to do.

I seriously doubt speedcubing has a positive effect on the brain. It's relaxing, but that's all.

FMC-ing every now and then might have a positive effect.

After 1 day of non-stop cubing I am capable of doing really stupid things, like putting the remote control of my TV in the fridge, and getting angry because I can't find it, for example.. :).
