Cubing Hot Takes, Opinions, and more!

Tymon/Max will get sub-3 in comp before Yiheng. While Yiheng is incredible, and I also am slanted because I like Tymon and Max MUCH more than Yiheng, I do believe this is the likely result. Yiheng seems to get more 3s in a more consistent range, 3.8-3.9, with one outlier (3.47), meanwhile, Max is more inconsistent, as in each 3 is a remarkable improvement, and Tymon is slowly inching down, getting super low, with multiple 3s under 3.7. Also, Yiheng has been to much fewer competitions and is probably less experienced with nerve control. We know Tymon has done things like his 4.86 average E1, which was some incredible nerve control, especially because everyone was watching him. This is just my opinion, I would love to hear alternate opinions, and also if anyone has a different reason they think the same thing as me, I would love to hear that too!

Could you explain why? It just seems like he is far off and doesn't exactly have much of a chance. I think he could stay a top OH cuber, but he isn't improving, he is merely getting good averages/singles.
Well, for one, I would love to see another WR by Feliks. But also he got the OH NR about 4 months ago or so, and he switched to a Gan 12 for the first time (for OH solving), so that's why I predict he's going to break another WR with OH.

I think that to show real skill you should show that you can balance many events at once. The Guildford challenge and 2-x relays are good at showing that you can do many events at once and still be fast. My best time for a 2-7 relay is 8:23, although I have never attempted a guildford relay. I might once I acquire a skewb tho.

Hmm. I think that real skill could be represented by that, but Yiheng has real skill, and he isn't as good in events that aren't 2-4, so I think this is not a good way to say it. And I know you mentioned 2-x relays, but I don't think you meant 2-4. And I guess he's good at pyraminx, but that is still just 4 events he is good at.

The problem in Guildford challenges is that 5x5 and Megaminx skills are more represented simply because they take longer. You could be quite bad at 2x2 and still get a good guildford time, but if you are bad at mega, your guildford time will be bad as well.

That's why I'm saying that everyone should practice big cubes. Not only does it help with lookahead but it also helps with memorizing where things are and where things will be/go.

Nah, but that is because your times are slanted to 2 cubes, which require specific skillsets, that very skilled people might not have.

Okay, what I think I'm actually trying to say is that the best people are fast at many events, not just a few. They're top 100 in almost every event, and they are trying to improve little by little. I mean Max and Tymon are fast in the main events, but the people who aren't focused on those events can get fast at the other events and basically grab free WRs there.
