On the f2l algorithms there is fr br fl etc. what do these mean.

I am no expert AT ALL, but if I understand your question, f is just like F, except you bring the next layer as well with you - if you understan?
Same goes with r / R, l / L etc.

ok i dont think you quite understand e.g FR: algorithm
thats what it is i think it might mean to posistion the pieces at Front right
but im unsure

its referring to the position of the slots, most likely

i.e. FR = front right = (green F, white U) green + red corner/edge pair

there are different algorithms depending on the location of each pair.

just learn the FR one, and then you'll just realise that he's just showing you the same case from different angles.
