Cube cover question

You can use pretty much anything that fully covers the cube:

  • A2c) After the scrambler starts scrambling the puzzle, the competitor must not see the puzzle until the inspection phase starts.
    • A2c1) The scrambler places a cover over the scrambled puzzle that makes it impossible for any competitors or spectators to see any part of the puzzle. The cover remains over the puzzle until the start of the attempt.

Utah competitions use special covers for square-1 and clock, engineered by the one and only Brendan Bakker. It can be seen here

It has saved many a headache for organizers, scramblers, and delegates alike as it makes sure that square-1 moves are impossible in transit without using inserts which tend to mess the lubricant in the puzzle up and they require the competitior to take them out before solving, which can be very distracting for CSP users. It also makes sure that clock pins dont get messed up.

As long as the cover obstructs the cube from all competitiors both in transit and on the table its perfectly legal. You shouldn't have to ever worry about this though, unless you are an organizer or delegate. For those local organizers who need covers, try to get a sponsorship from a manufacturer or store. We got sponsored by Qiyi for our last Utah competition and they sent us a big stack of cube covers that we will be using for a long time.
