Ever had a situation where two of your pieces in your cross need to be switched around?

Here are 2 simple algos to fix that. Each can be performed in under a second.

if the two peices are opposite hold 1 on the L side and one on the R side and perform R U2 Ri U2 R

If they are say.. at 9 and 12 o clock position them one on the R side and one on the B side and perform R U Ri Ui R

Hope this helps some newbies

Rather do M2 U2 M2 it's much faster.

If you strated to put down pairs and you see that your cross is properly built but miss aligned, then you can adjust it by doing M2 S2 S2 M2.

The turn: bracets says it is a choise of one of the three possible U turns, U, U' or U2. Use the U to place the cross so it fits the side face centres.

M2 is a really easy to figure out.

You just hold L and R and intuitively figure out how to get the (M)iddle slice to rotate 180 degrees while keeping the rest of the cube in tact.

It's the basis for the Z and H permutations that I use o.O

M2
I prefer to execute it as r2 R2'

If you are a beginner you can
a) just put the 4 edges in 1 at a time (correctly placed and oriented) or
b) put them all in the same face (correctly oriented, but randomly placed).

If you use option b (or make a mistake during option a you can simply (not optimally) fix it by
1) Turning the face where you have the cross (I will assume D-face from now on) so at least 2 edges are placed correct
2a) All 4 turn out to be correct
2b) 2 opposite edges need to be swapped. Use M2 U2 M2 (or R2 U2 L2 U2 R2 which is more simular to 2c)
2c) 2 adjacnet edges need to be swapped. Use R2 U F2 U' R2

I am not mentioning how to position the cube, because that seems trivial to me and if it isn't trivial to you just perform the algs on a solved cube (they are self-inversing/palindrome algs)

Advanced cubers should just find an optimal (shortest/fastest) cross during inspection. If they make a mistake M2 U2 M2 is still usefull, but R u F' u' R or without double layer turns R D' R' D R are shorter/faster

Thanks

In the second case I took the liberty of re-labeling the positions as the 12 and 3 o'clock positions from the start (a tiny bit easier to remember for me). Intuitively, I came up with the first case on my own, but after an awful lot of solves I still had not gotten around to the second case, so thank you. Nice little thread. :)
