colliding layers on DIY

Hi everybody,
just got into cubing and bought a DIY cube, assembled it and started learning (Thx Joël for your great site). To make the movements easier on my hands i loosed the screws a bit (not enough to make the cube pop all the time, but loose enough that it would pop if too much pressure is applied).
But now the little corner cubes still seem a bit too loose in my eyes. Worse, one some moves the layer i'm currently turning seems to get stuck, collides with the other layer and i have to carefully adjust the over layers until i can continue the move.
Do you have any idea what could have caused this? Did i assemble the cube wrong, is my cube just of poor quality, does my cube need sanding?

Thanks for your time,

You shouldn't need to sand a diy. I would tighten it up just a bit, play with for a few days to smooth out the rough spots and then lube her up...the cube will really fly once you do this and you can set it up perfectly.

Personally, I wet-sanded all my cubies. If you want to sand them... take a piece of 320 grit sand paper, dip it in a cup of water, and GENTLY sand the cubie in both directions (up and down/ left and right). Jonny is right... you shouldn't 'need to'... but if you want to, that's how I did it, and it worked great.

I know a guy who sanded a Target bought Rubik's cube, and it turned into a decent cube. It's not as nice as a true DIY (IMO), but it is MUCH faster than it was before he sanded it.

The reason that I sanded my cubies, is because there were a lot of burrs from the molding process that I wanted to remove... and getting the edges smooth was important to me.

I think you should tigthen it a bit, but if you never like it however it is, lube it, and tigthen it a bit.

Thanks for your ideas, i sanded and lubed my cube and it turnes really great, but is still have the same problem now and then... i suspect i might have made a mistake while putting the axis together (oblique screw?)

You could have turn one of your screws crooked into the core wich could be one of the problems.
Or you just need to break in your cube, DIY cubes are not that 'smooth'(I say smooth not loose!) in the beginning like most people say, it still needs to be broken in.
