so I got my 4x4x4 rubik's studio today (from puzl.co.uk) and was wondering what to do to make it a bit better.

how long should I use it before applying lube? what's the best way to break them in, do I just keep solving it over and over? and is sanding worth it at all?

I don't want it to break really, not looking for fast times or anything.

although it cuts corners ok, it locks a lot and it feels like a chore solving it. it's quite tight, the edge faces are starting to loosen a bit and it's popped a couple of times too.

There's not much modding to do... as far as breaking in give it a few hours of random turning. sanding will make it more pop prone. just randomly turn until its smooth enough and loose enough to cut corners better. Then apply the lube.

Since you're new here I'd also like to tell you about the search function . Since there have many many threads about breaking in and lubing, you just have to search for it. Have fun and good luck with your 4x4 studio cube (even though its the same as a regular rubik's).

thanks, I did search, nothing specific for 4x4x4 modding came up. (I didn't know if 3x3x3 lubing method would be any different)

after posting this, i was doing random turns and the whole thing came apart. great.

would it be worth putting any lube on the core or pieces before I put it back together or will it need breaking in more first?

I totally get you on the sanding part, I'll leave that alone as it pops enough.

also I knew it was the same as a normal rubik's, but I didn't pay any extra for it from puzl. I can't believe cube4you rip people off and actually charge more for them.

Just break it in. It may take a long time but it'll be worth it. And work on your turning. It only pops because you turn sides while others are misaligned. And cube4you doesn't rip people off. They don't even make most of their products. He just wants to have a single site where you can get all of your cubing products.

he charges more because of the shipping charges that he has to pay you. just do your math shipping from Hungary to china is definitely going to be more that if is was from one province of china to another

i see. well I only paid £15 from puzl anyway.

mine's getting better all the time, the more I play with it. I lubed all the pieces a little before reassembling it and it's better now.

Still can't do it that fast, my best time is about 5:30
