Best way to randomize a cube

C'mon, guys, lighten up. I'm not trying to set any speed records or test every possible combination. I just want to get good enough that I can show a young child how to do it.

This guys. She's just trying to teach her grandkids the general method (some form of beginner's probably). How to get a cross edge in place, a corner, a middle layer edge, last layer... with a few times trying, you'll probably already come across all the different cases for first two layers. Just keep turning until you think it's sufficiently scrambled for your purposes. Once your grandkids get the gist of it, they can look online for more advanced methods and computer generated scrambles if they wish. I guess if you post in this forum you'll get a very technical response.

why are you so insistent on only using 15 moves or something

just use random state scrambles or at least 20 moves, it will take literally less than 5 seconds longer

Is there another forum for less "serious" cubers? I did try to explain my purpose. ;-) I guess anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Not exactly...this forum is centered around speedsolving, and if you post it under puzzle theory you'll get even more of that stuff. However, you could post it in your members introduction thread if you have one in the first place and/or decide to create one.
