Hey, I was wondering what are some good modern 3x3 cubes for Roux (fast & controllable M slice)?
Preferably I would rather avoid MoYu cubes but other than that, I am open to suggestions.
I don't have a specific budget as long as it is within reason.
Thanks to anyone who can help 😁

I heard the tornado V3 is pretty good for Roux

I really like the tornado v3 and a ton of other Moyu cubes like the wrmv9 and rs3m v5. Is there any reason in particular you want to avoid Moyu cubes?

I have heard (a lot of) great reviews for the new GuHong Pro M ($20)
especially the 54mm and 55mm versions
All have core-corner magnets for increased stability
and the Maglev versions seem faster than basic spring ones☑️

I also suggest checking the 54mm Guhong Pro Maglev out. And it's not due to the low price. I found it as good as the Tornado V3 Flagship. In fact they are very similar, in most respects, including M slices. I have a smaller hand and I use my ring and little finger for M slices. The main difference between these vibes for me is the size of these cubes. I actually prefer the Guhong over the Tornado. 😲

The only surprise with this Guhong is how little noise there has been about the nice performance (not just the price). I assume that may be due to the unadjustable corner magnet strength. And the chosen strength may not suit others. I found it just right and a setting of 2 for axis distance perfect. If you should get it please let us know how you find it, esp for Roux.

I have a question about the Guhong Pros, is there that much of a difference in performance between the different sizes are does it really just come down to preference?

Yes! There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference between the sizes. I have both versions of the 54mm and the standard 56mm. I first got the 54mm and was blown away by how good they are. There's next to no difference between the spring and maglev, so I'd just get the standard version and save a couple bucks.

I decided to buy the 56mm as well to try and it is UNBELIEVABLE how bad it is. On the same settings the 56mm is looser, flimsier, maybe faster and harder to control. It is like a completely different cube. I might make a video to show how different they are. I also want to get the 55mm to try as well.

I personally think Dayan designed the cube to be 54mm, then just scaled up the design to 55 and 56 mm instead of designing them to be those sizes. I had suspected this would be a problem when they were announced, but I actually expected the 56 to be good and then downscaled to smaller sizes.

TLDR: The 56 is massively worse than the 54mm which is amazing.

Tornado V3 Flagship (the one without maglev) is great for Roux, another cube I liked for Roux is the Moyu Weilong WRM V9 picube edition, this version also doesn't have maglev.

Moyu WRM 2021 is another good option, a little too fast for me but good M slices.

Out of those 3 the Tornado is my favorite one, it is fast but controlable and quite flexible.

I believe there are changes or improvements to these Guhong cubes since the very first cubes sent out for testing. Foe example, with the ones I bought, there is no problem with centre caps coming off (as some reported), and there is definitely a difference between the Maglev and Standard versions. I bought 6 already, all 54mm, from different aliexpress shops. The spring version is looser, easier to get out of shape and often cause a problem for me, even at the tightest setting. It takes less effort and is faster to turn and I think it's probably better for those who can turn faster than this beginner. On a good day, I really enjoy the light effortless turns, but on others I can get catches. The Maglev one is more stable and tolerant. I'm learning to use a lighter touch when turning, and hope it can help me get better. 🤔
