Hey everyone, this is my 2nd attempt at method development and I've come up with a belt/EO/keyhole method (or Beok for short - sorry about the name, I couldn't think of anything better on the spot). So I did a bit of research and I think that this method is somewhat original and unique (unlike my previous method). Now this isn't specifically a speedsolving method, I was just interested in trying out a couple of different techniques.
  1. Solve the R/D and L/D edges creating a line on the bottom of the cube.
  2. Solve the belt (E slice edges).
  3. Solve EO with the remaining edges, using the M slice (as you would in Roux) while inserting the remaining cross edges.
  4. Solve F2L using keyhole with any of the slots.
  5. Use ZBLL to solve the LL (or OCLL and PLL if, like me, you haven't got round to learning full ZBLL quite yet).
Tell me what you think, how could it be made better? (As a beginner in method development, I welcome any criticism).

Well the first major issue is that if you solve the belt you CANNOT do keyhole without having to unsolve one of the belt edges so you have a free slot to insert the D layer corners. The second problem is that there is no advantage to building a horizontal line as the first step. ZZ has moved away from EOLine because it’s worst than solving an EOCross. You’re also losing a lot of efficiency by solving the cross in two stages and by placing belt edges you make F2L way less efficient.
I’d recommend looking at method ideas and asking yourself things like “why do this specific step? Is there anything better? Are there advantages? Is it just for the sake of being different?”

Thanks a lot for the feedback, the problem with making the horizontal line and reduced efficiency with the belt is something I have realised. What you said at the end I think will definately be useful to me when coming up with ideas. Back to the drawing board I guess.
Yeah don’t give up lol. Keep working on stuff. You could also try to do development for things that aren’t 3x3 since 3x3 is where the most development has been made.
