Yes, i used the search button, and it didn't bring up anything much... What do backwards C4Y springs do? which way is backwards? is it better?

the spot where coils are bunched up a lot, like they are directly one after other is considered the "top" if its upside down, its "backwards" it works better with the thick "backwards" so the thick end is "pointing" at the core.

actually, the type A goes "big washer, spring, little washer", so the big part is away from the centre

Second picture.

Yeah I know, reading instruction manuals and stuff like that is for wussies.

Yeah, it seems very illogical to put the big end away from the core (*ssbackwards so to speak), but the following video advocates this method. More feedback is needed from cubers that have tried this both ways.

EDIT: I cannot get Youtube and my browser IE6 to work with the video time tags above. I put 4 variations in this post to see if anybody can get any of them to work. Video should begin playing at the 6:35 mark.

The big end of the spring is like the little washer. The screw already has a big washer connected to it. So the little washer goes away from the big washer. The big side of the spring should be away from the screw head. Ive tried putting them in the wrong way. The Springs eventually fall down into the center piece and the cube wont be able to cut corners much, but it'll be REALLY fast. Almost like a Famwealth.

isn't it FAMWEALTH?

i think that i would stick with corner cutting, because im not an accurate turner. if you are, you might want to try the backwards springs, according to edwards post.

Sorry, post edited.

Thanks. Just... it's plenty enough to point to 6:35 and btw, you can actually do that in the URL (note the tail):

First he says it binds a lot and then says it can't bind. Which is it?

Taking apart more cubes yesterday I found my Ghost Hand 2003A has this kind of spring "backwards" but it can be turned around while my Type A 52mm has them backwards and they don't fit turned around.

Manufacturers must know something to do that on purpose?! My C4U seems to perform better that way too. Now I need to figure out "why?"

Stefan: I will edit previous post using that nifty tail tag. Thanks for showing that trick to me.
