[Unofficial] Average Cuber Cubing Session

Yeah, I think what I'm going to do for the next week or so is just do a lot of slow turning with a metronome for cross + f2l instead of focusing on trying to learn full OLL, which is what I was doing. Then I'll see how I'm doing from there.

1. Good job! Nice editing and jokes. xD
2. Fourth solve was +2 not DNF. Look up wca regulations for more info.
3. Work on cross. Also your LL is fine, no need to learn any algs. Maybe you could do a few OLLs now and then.
4. You don't need to cover up the cube with the book, just don't look at the cube until inspection, or just start inspecting as soon as scrambling is done.

No. I always feel like 15 seconds isn't enough to plan out the entire cross, so I always just start solving as soon as I at least know where all of the white edges are. (I'm not color neutral.) I'll put that on my list of things to improve, planning out full cross in inspection.

EDIT: Coolster01

1. Thanks haha
2. Really? I thought if you needed to do 2 or more turns after stopping the timer, it was DNF, and I stopped it when I still needed to do an R2 (I think)
3. That's the main thing I guess I need to improve first, thanks
4. Got it, thanks

I love this style of video. The commentary is nice, and it's good to objectively analyze your own solves. The fact that you do this should make you loads better in no time.

Your cross definitely needs the most work. You're fast enough that you should be planning the whole cross within 15 seconds. You're only utilizing a fraction of your inspection time. Also, you're rotating the cube way too much during this step. A planned cross is more efficient in terms of number of moves, but it also is more efficient in how those moves are performed. I would start working on this by doing some dedicated cross practice. Don't worry about inspection time to begin with. Just plan an efficient cross, whether it takes a few seconds or a minute. Once you start seeing patterns and tricks, it'll get easier, and then start adding inspection time into the mix. I'm constantly finding new "tricks" for my cross.

Your turning style could also use some adjustments. If you watch, you'll notice that there are a lot of pauses followed by incredibly fast, jerky movements (like whenever you do a sexy move, or another common trigger). Try to make your turns steady and even. You are moving so fast and jerky during these portions of the solve that one of your hands is actually leaving the cube. While it seems fast, it's very inefficient, and ultimately you'll be able to achieve faster times with a fluid and steady movement that is more efficient. Additionally, turning in such a way hinders your ability to work on lookahead. It was at about your speed that I started really getting a grasp on lookahead. Try to emphasize smooth turning. Try not to follow your current F2L pair, your fingers already know what they're supposed to do, start trying to find your next pair.

Finally, try to cut down on unnecessary cube rotations. You seem to have a bit of a habit of rotating after every F2L pair. Don't rotate to find pieces. Get comfortable inserting pairs from all angles, only rotate if it's absolutely necessary to rotate to pair and insert efficiently. You should never have to rotate more than once per F2L pair.

Hope these tips help, and I look forward to seeing your progress. I'm sure it'll come quickly.

If you can't plan out your entire cross, then just completely disregard the 15 seconds inspection. Going over the inspection time and planning out the cross will help you more then trying to obey the regulations. It seems to me that you know what you need to improve, so good luck.

Thanks everyone for the input, especially the detailed analysis by jayefbe :)

You'll be sure to hear back from me in a while, probably when I'm either stuck at sub 15 or sub 20 or something.

Again thanks everyone for the compliments and the criticism.
