Are there any cubes that rival the studios in preformance?

Ive been out of the community for few years and I'm looking for the best cubes on the market. Ive had dozens of hessports, a couple 1980 ideals and a studio. In my experience the old ideals were the best, followed by the studio. The hessport can be good or bad with a few really bad and a couple pretty good. Was looking around on eBay and say some of the diy's and was wondering what experiences you guys have had with them and what your thoughts are on the quality's of the cubes.

I never had an studio cube, or a hessport, but i have a DIY. Before Rubik's started stilling DIYs, I believe that it was the springs that attracted many speedcubers to those types of cubes. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I would say that DIYs can be made as good as any other cube, with the same mechanism.

This is a little off topic, but do older cubes (original models) have arched centers?

Rubiks DIY are now considered second best by most speedcubers.

Cube4You / 9spuzzles DIY type A are the best there is right now.
