Just wondering, does rubik's only have one type of storebought cube? They have so many different packagings..but they all look the same..and people seem to talk about storeboughts like they're all the same.

I tried harris chan's combo once (cube4you centre pieces + store cubies) and it just didnt work..it was too tight to turn though the screws were already very loose and it's popping very easily. so i was thinking did he use the same storebought as mine...

I think it's safe to say that all Rubik's storebought cubes are different. :)

Honestly, the quality varies dramatically from one storebought cube to another. I should know - I've bought a total of 15 for multiBLD. But if you work hard on breaking them in, they can all be at least passable, though most of them will never be particularly good. I've got a couple out of those 15 that are pretty amazing, though.

My storebought is very good but it can't cut corners and it's not as smooth as my Rubiks Speedcube from cube4you which is very nice!

No, each batch is slightly different.

It's no more hit or miss than it is with chinese DIYs, so if you've money to burn try a couple out. Tip: go to a few different stores (they're more likely to have different suppliers that way and the manufacturer may differ).

Pfff Mr. Hughey. With love and care, any store bought cube can be amazing.

Well, perhaps you're right. My fourth storebought one was absolutely terrible - it caught all the time at unusual times, it was never smooth to turn, just truly awful, probably the worst storebought cube I ever had. I brought it with me to the Philippines and used it many hundreds of hours there, brought it back here with me, and it still was a terrible cube, but not as bad. Since then I've hit it several times with CRC silicone and used it a bunch, then forgotten about it for about half a year. And now, I can't tell which of two cubes it is, because it looks and feels just like another one that was actually pretty good. They're both pretty good cubes now. But this particular one took probably a year and a half to get to be pretty good.

I have this lubing service at school. I created this "service" last week.

People are all saying, "How come your cube's so fast?"

Of course, I respond, "I lubed it with silicone."

So people want me to lube their cubes ( I only charge $1USD). And they all have storeboughts.

Some are still horrible after lubing and some are great. I've only had two good ones out of probably 10 so far.

So, not all storeboughts are the same.

I got a couple Rubik's brand cubes from Learning Express in my town. I believe they were 25th Anniversary cubes. Both turned out great. They were stiff before I worked them in a bit, then cleaned and lubed them. Not bad cubes, and I was able to get one the same day I wanted it.

Use the search function. You would've found all of this information in less time.

My first storebought cube was terrible, really hard to turn. My second was pretty good considering I hadn't used a DIY before.
But now, the 25th Anniversary Cube I got today is amazing, just doesn't cut corners, but I wasn't expecting it to.
