I started cubing 3 weeks ago. The first 2 days I could never solve one without a cheat sheet. I immediately began with 4LLL instead of the beginner's method.

On the third day I got my first solve help free in 5 minutes with a really old Rubik's brand. The following day I got myself a Weilong and averaged around 2min. A week after that I got to sub 1min 10s and then started learning F2L and some more PLLs.

The F2L slowed me drastically to about 1 min 30s at the start after an hour of tinkering with the cube. Today, I fluctuate between 50s to just over a minute on most occasions using 2L-OLL and 2L-PLL. Currently using T, Y, J, U, A, H and Z perms.

I'm a bit frustrated because my F2L is really slow and I can't seem to improve my times further. I heard that F2L is the hardest part in learning to speedcube but is the progress going to be reaaalllyyy slow? Or should I brutely memorize algs for them?

Everything you learn will slow you down until you are comfortable with it. At some point something will 'click' and you'll see your times improve drastically. With everything you've already learned, you'll be down to sub 40 in no time.

For F2L there are a couple things you can do. The easiest is to go on youtube and watch example solves by fast people. Make sure you have a cube and you're following along. Rewind if you need. That'll give you an idea as to what to strive for.

Second is to put away the timer and focus on efficient F2L. Turn SLOWLY! Find your pair and find the most efficient way to do it. Try a couple different approaches from different angles. This and example solves will help drastically.

Even now, every couple of months I'll have an "Ah ha!" moment, sometimes without even knowing what it is that I changed, and will drop my times by up to a second, though usually not that much (I'm 13s-14s average right now). At your speed, this will be 5, 10, or even more at a time.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!

Good luck!
