Another Practice Technique

Hey, me again. So i posted the other day about a method i sometimes use for practicing that's fun and passes the time while cooking with a microwave.

So now, i'd like to mention something similar that is also prbably not original, but still good.

Something I do to practice algs and such is that i have my cube with me when i drive (even if it's a mini Diansheng) and when i get to a stoplight that i know will stay red for at least a minute or so, I use that time to race the light and perform as many of x algs/ solves (though i usually don't try for solves, cuz i'm not very fast yet) as i can before the light changes.

Now, I don't advocate cubing while driving, but figure that as long as there's someone behind me, they'll honk if i'm taking too long or misjudge the window of opportunity.

So, despite the obvious flaws (and i guess ossible danger), what do you all think? (Of those for whom which drive.)

wow, this is awesome X) but these days, there are too many road ragers cos they are so impatient but it would be best to do this if you are a sub 15 solver.

Hmmm well mostly your ideas are just random and things most of us do anyway. I suck and I still bust my cube out randomly and do solves or algs when I can.

Make a thread in which people, including you, can post random stuff they do like this. It could get quite interesting.

okay, thanks. yeah, sorry for the disorganization. I'm still fairly new to the overall flow of the forum, but yeah, I'll probably do that.

Erm, yeah, probably not the best thing to be doing while you're driving a car...

I agree with fanwuq. If you're fumbling to get started at a green light, you're more likely to make a mistake. Like hit a baby with your car.

Or just rush and not have your full attention and focus on the road because you've gotten yourself rattled by getting honked at. I just don't see anything good coming out of it.

Another way is to solve while on an escalator. If the escalator is around 30 seconds and you are trying to beat 30 sec then try to finish solving before you reach the top.

Or if a lift is 23 seconds, then if you solve it before you reach the top then you beat 23 seconds.

Or if a lift is 23 seconds, then if you solve it before you reach the top then you beat 23 seconds.

Wow, you're smart!

You might also figure out by now that if the lift is 20 sec then if you beat it you are sub-20! :D

I don't see how your mind thinks up such complicated equations. Clearly we have a mathematical genius with us. Either that or I'm just stupid. I could get owned here so easily

I used to do a two-hand solve at red lights but one time I forgot to look up and someone honked at me, so I stopped.

I practice one-hand fingertricks and algs when I drive sometimes. Another thing I like to do is inspect at the cube at a red light, then when I drive I solve as far as I looked ahead (one handed and not looking at the cube -- eyes on the road!). So basically I solve a step after each red light: Cross, however many f2l pairs I saw, oll, pll. It's good practice I think.

That's a false dichotomy, there :P
