Hi,

I'm currently averaging something like 26s right now... my webcam is screwed up so I'll just post my splits

3-5s Cross
10-12s F2l
4-5s OLL
3-5s PLL

I have been trying to get a better lookahead but it seems when I lower my tps I tend to loose rhythm. I have been trying to use a metronome but it fails miserably... Since using the metronome my times have increased by 1-2 s (f2l split).

So 1st Question
I want to get my f2l consistent sub 10 so when I start drilling my Last layer I'll be able to get sub 20 easily. How else (besides the metronome) can I improve?

2nd Question
Has anybody experienced an increase in time after doing f2l using the metronome (as practice).

Thanks for reading my really long nub thread. I searched but I couldn't find anybody else with the same problem

To answer your second question, yes. Last week I started to slow down my f2l and was trying to be more smooth. It ended up that I couldn't speed it up and my times dropped a second or two. But then I took a 2 day break and when I went back to solving, things seemed to be back to normal.

I think that you should start drilling some of your PLL's now because you really should get them down to 2-3 seconds if you want sub-20. I can do all of them in less than 3.5 (would be 3 if not for the G's and N's) and I average about 19 with a 11-14 second f2l

Also, your cross could maybe use some work because you basically screw up your solve if you have a 5 second cross.

I would suggest trying to make your F2L algs more efficient.

I always try to optimize.. and I think my algs are already quite efficient as I can execute in around 1-2 seconds. (p.s. I used the wiki- I prefer finger tick friendly algs rather than less moves).

And yes I am colour neutral (have been since I started)

EDIT
My cross is quite slow yes... but I've been trying to do it blindfolded and it doesn't make much of a difference
Any other suggestions?

Ah, okay then. You should always be optimizing your algs though, sometimes I'm just solving and I find better ways to solve a case out of no where.

As for the cross, doing it blindfolded isn't necessary in my opinion. To practice, visualize how you are going to solve the cross, and then just solve it while looking at it. Try to look ahead for an F2L pair while you are solving your cross though, as that helps cut the pause between cross and F2L.

good point... my cross f2l transition isn't that great... I'll practice that for a bit
Thanks all

Make use of being CN and scan the cube for free f2l pairs during inspection. Try to memorize the cross so you can look into f2l.

Lower f2l movecount, do pll time attacks.

For F2L, try to not rotate the cube as much. Limit yourself to 2 rotations per solve, if you don't already :P

I found that I never really needed to drill algorithms to get moderately fast at them (for PLL, at least). Normal solving gives me enough practice at them. Your goal of sub-10 F2L seems sort of far off if you count cross as a separate time. You want cross+F2L to take less than 14-15 seconds if you want to be able to have around 5 seconds to do your last layer, which I think is quite possible with any major drilling. So I'd say practice getting your PLLs down to 2-3 seconds at least, and then work on OLL recognition (I assume that's what takes the most time), and you could easily be sub-20 before you know it :)
