What if we had an annual competition between America, Europe, and Asia (no offence to the other continents)? Every event could be held, and the top ten winners in each event could receive points for their continent. You could get more points in the main events than the side events. There could be prizes for the people who scored the most points for their country. Also, there could be extra team events e.g. big cube team solves with 50 (or less... or maybe more :D) people. What do you people think about this idea?

I would get to work alongside Erik :D...

...but I would be against Harris and Nakaji :( ... :P

In world's you are representing yourself right? At most yourself and then your country but I guess Robert is saying that there should be some sort of competition that is specifically between countries/continents?

A lot of sports like tennis has this kind of competition.

I like the idea, an annual clash of the continents battle. It wouldn't be bigger than worlds of course, more about the fun.
Probably people will be posting things like: 'countries are stupid', 'cubing is an individual sport' etc etc, but it's really not about that at this idea as I understand, just the fun :)

I think that WOULD be fun. Get together a "team" (much like the Olympic Games) of the best solvers in every event for the region. Assign a point system to the "medal count" and see which region comes out on top. All in all, I think it would be a very fun event. I would love to work alongside other American cubers in such a competition.

It could be done with countries as well, but I think there would be a more even competition among continents.

Why not just figure out some system to use the existing competition results, rather than relying on trying to get all the people together. If you have the competition in Europe, some of the top Americans wouldn't be there, and if you had it in America, some of the top Europeans wouldn't be there.

So that's why it would be held on a different continent each year.. just like olympics...

That's a good point, but you could say the same thing about the world championships.

Btw, I just had this idea of a continental average where the top 5 cubers of each continent do one solve each to get an average of 5 for their continent.

EDIT: I just like the idea of working together as a team which is why I suggested this competition in the first place :)

But I would guess that most of the time you'd simply have the host continent winning. Especially on years where this would be held and not during World's, foreign turnout would be low. Perhaps I'm thinking about this from a "In reality, what could we do to make this possible." I'll switch my thinking to fantasy land....

Instead of a host country, we all just fly into space so it's a neutral area. Then we don't have to worry about dropping cubes and getting a +2 penalty.

I think doing it by country would be a little more fun. There would be many more teams and more people could compete. Making a team of 5 would be interesting, you would have to balance talent in whatever events were planned.

I think it'd be especially great b/c there are a number of countries that could have a chance at a title.

that being said, none of this seems like a reality at the moment.
