Hey everyone! :) I am very new to speed cubing and i had my cube for 2 or 3 weeks, and i started practicing seriously for a week now. (Practicing like 4 hours a day. sigh...)I usually get between 1min7sec to 1min55sec. I use the layer by layer method. Most of you are well experienced and i respect that. Can someone please tell me which method is best and what algs i have to remember and what site i can get the algs from. I heard the top speedcubers in the world use friedrich. Again i am very new to this sport. Please help.
Thanks for your time. :)

Welcome CubeAddict.

4 hours a day! I wish I had that amount of time.

Please look around on this forum a little. There are a lot of people here that asked the same questions as you did, so look for there topics.

Basically, this is what you need to do to get really fast
1) Visit this forum daily and read everything people say :)
2) Find a site that has a method you like, very fast methods are Petrus/Roux/Fridrich
3) Keep practising, maybe even 5 hours a day :)
4) Buy a good cube and lube it with silicon.
5) Go to a competition and talk to other cubers in person. We are very friendly people and we like to talk about the cube!
6) Start participating in our weekly competition

A site I recommend: deepcube.net
A site others will recommend: solvethecube.co.uk

Enjoy the cube

I recommend getting a sub-1 minute average before switching to a speed method. It won't be wasted time, because it'll help you get better acquainted with the cube/increase turning speed so that when you do make the switch, your technique is good enough that for the moment you only have to work on the method itself. Also, in my experience, I didn't really understand the cube for quite awhile after I started. I looked at F2L pages and I was just baffled by them, so I left them alone. But I went back when my average with LBL was well under a minute and it wasn't easy but it was at least comprehensible.

Long story short, stick with it until you're under a minute.

I think that you shouldn't worry about all the advance methods yet. I know that you want to be fast in a short time...but take it easy! I haven't even learn the LBL method until a month or so. The beginner's method is a stepping stone to the advance ones.

Basically, you'll start combining the beginner's method with some advance algos, and then later you'll learn all the advance algos.

It's a very good time for beginners to cube now, because back when I started, this forum didn't even exist. More than dozens of site popped up...and they're all very useful. The algos are there, but you are the ones that have to decide which one is best for you. The algorithm that a top cuber use might not be the ones that you like or are comfortable with.

But as said before, stick with the beginner's method till you sub 1 minute. I was at 32 seconds before I started learning F2L! 2-3 weeks experience is a bit too early to get into the advance method. Because it'll just be frustrating to try to understand the concept. So just wait :D

Sorry if I don't make sense...or sounded...weird.

I started learning F2L pretty soon after learning to solve the cube. I learned the basic ways of solving a corner edge pair (RUR', RU'R', F'UF, and F'U'F), and intuitively solved F2L by getting the corner and the edge to one of those four cases.

Once you are comfortable with a beginner's method, there's no reason not to learn Fridrich F2L or any other advanced method's intuitive step. Working corner is a good intermediate method, if you want something simpler. I would hold off, though, on memorizing tons of advanced algs.

im not that experienced at all in speedcubing but i can tell you from experiance that you might want to look around at a few differnt methods, b/c one method doesnt fit everyone. im learning petrus at the moment, its slightly difficult to get at first but its less algs to learn witch is why i chose it, but like i said one method isnt for everyone. So, good luck with what ever method you chose

i'd agree with Chan on what he said,
not sure if he'll agree with me...
but i usually tell people not to stress out on learning new algs and more advanced methods until they can consistently solve around a minute, under a minute is ideal,
but until then, some one at your speed should just chisel down their times with practice and the method they know.
