Hey guys, I have now been ubing for about 4 months and for 5x5x5 I have been using an eastsheen. It is admittedly pretty bad, and I should be getting a V5 soon but I have a problem with the Eastsheen and I would like to see if you could help me fix it, Becuase otherwise I might not be able to do 5x5x5 for a while.

Problem: Recently it has been popping rather explosively, at any point in my solve and I'm not sure whats causing it. It seems to be when I try to go faster, could this make a difference?

Ideas:

1) I lubricated it too much? Could be causing the peices to slide out of alginment then fly out of the cube.

2) The core has become very loose? Could mean that the peices are not being held in enough so they just fall out, taking half the cube with them.

3) One or more of the Pieces has worn away, causing there not to be the correct part holding the other pieces in (I think that this is less likely becuase I can't find one that looks different).

So what do you guys think? Also, could you suggest ways to fix it Apart from buy a new 5x5x5.

Thanks

Ah OK. thanks guys.

Have done a few slower solves on it, it seems to be coping so I guess I won't be improving.

Unfortunately its going to be about 3 months before I get a new one.

Ah well.

There isnt a way to fix it at this point. Get a maru.

Not true at all! This is how you fix it. (Ignore the thread title, which is for 4x4x4; this is a fix for 5x5x5.)

It works VERY well (I've done it for two of my Eastsheen 5x5x5s); if you do it right, it should be almost as good as when you first bought it. Of course, it's still nowhere near as good as a V Cube, but it's almost as good as a new Eastsheen, which in my opinion is a lot better than nothing, especially since you have to wait for 3 months.

Thanks for that Mike, I will try it when I get the time.
By Spider, does he mean the central core section?

He means the tip of the core section, where the screws go in. It should be plastic, and therefore fairly easy to file down.

As antoineccantin mentions, it is possible the screws are simply loose, so just tightening it might work. That wasn't the case with mine, though, which is why the fix was what I needed. I had done many solves on it by the time I needed this fix - this was back when the Eastsheen 5x5x5 was the best 5x5x5 available.
