[Unofficial] 4bld 3:09

Wow, you guys are amazing. I was pretty happy with my 6:13. Oh, well.

Alejandro, you should submit results for the weekly competition, now that you've already done one of the solves!

With a few more like you guys submitting results, I should be pushed out of the top ten for big cubes BLD. :)

weekly competition??? I am not aware, tell me a little please

don't get your hopes up too much, they are not official WCA competitions. ;)

On this forum, one of the subsections is "Weekly Forum Competitions": http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?17-Weekly-Forum-Competitions

Each week, a new one starts, and you have a week to do the solves for it.
It has all of the WCA events, along with 3x3 "Match the Scramble"
The scrambles are posted in the first post of each weekly competition thread, and you just do as many events as you want and post your times (and averages) for each event that you did in that thread (all of them listed in the same post, you can edit more times into your post at any time before the competition ends). When the competition ends, results are usually posted within a couple days, listing the rankings for each event for that week.

Notes:
Scramble with White on U and Green on F
Move counts are estimated using [wiki]STM[/wiki] & [wiki]ETM[/wiki]
All notation is SiGN
Wide and slice move examples using SiGN notation: alg.garron.us

The "view" link after each sequence shows:
* which pieces are being cycled
* how the algorithm is expanded

omg.....sub3min soon?

Keep in mind this was done a few months ago - it seems like Aron hasn't been working hard at 4x4x4 BLD since then. It seems like as soon as someone starts to get fast, they decide they're tired of it. Remember a year ago when Ville was getting serious about it again?

Ville, 2:51.77
Ville, 2:37.65
Ville, 2:27.50

And after that week (just when sub-2 was starting to look like it might happen), he stopped posting 4x4x4 BLD results. :(

Do you really think he will bother, I know I wouldn't. But who knows?

I guess we know now. :) Nice job, Brest!

~15 months ago already!

Aron helped me out with conjugate and commutator notation for Daniel Sheppard's 3:17.41 WR and Feliks Zemdegs' 3:37.80 fWR, so I thought this would be a good thank you.
Little did I know that Aron had already reconstructed it!

4BLD and 5BLD have lots of potential to be broken right now, especially since the 5BLD contains a pop! Did Ville stop cubing by the way?

Yeah, it seems all the people who have been doing bigBLD seem to quit or not bother practice it at all. Ville has stopped cubing, Bill Wang was consistently sub3 as well with 4BLD and he only solves 3x3 now. Then Daniel doesn't really practice 4BLD much (Or he didn't) and neither does aronpm. The 5BLD WR can be easily broken by Zane, Daniel and aronpm if they get successes at least. I'd guess Marcell is pretty nifty at 5BLD too if he were to get a success.

I think the problem is that we just don't enjoy it much. Sure, it's an awesome feeling to get a success, but personally the brainpower that gets sapped by even a 4bld attempt isn't pleasant. I enjoy some types of pain, but not brain pain. Hence I don't like practising bigbld at home. Basically the reason I got into in the first place was because that's where my natural talent lies and I thought that's the event I would do best at therefore I'll practise a bit and get NR...and then medal at Euros...then become big on the world stage. Now I've reached the pinnacle, there is nothing to aim for, and as I don't enjoy it enough, I don't practise. I know I got anywhere near my personal limit and I hate the fact that I haven't. But the reality is that if I cube, I'd rather just solve a load of 5x5s sighted.
