Do you guys reckon it is necessary to memorise all 41 cases for the F2L for the Fridrich method? I've memorised about 36 cases, and the rest of the ones I haven't learnt are the wierd ones where the C-E pair are already in place (just not correctly). Is it necessary to learn those algorithms to gain a faster time (What I usually do with those cases is just take the pieces out of the slot and break it down to another F2L case)?

Don't learn the "algorithms". Learn the strategies for pairing up and inserting.

Yeah, I'm not just learning the algorithms without thinking what I'm doing. I'm reading off Macky's page and most of the cases are just broken down to a few basic cases. So when I memorise the algorithms, I only really need to memorise the first couple of moves (most of the time) and I can figure out what the rest of the moves will be according to the basic case.

Well, I think you're fine. As long as you know what to do when you see it, you're set. I do the same thing. I don't know those cases where the corner edge pair is already in the slot, and it's just wrong, either. I just take them out and solve them from there.

yeah, there are so many ways to do F2L. For a few cases like the ones stuck inside the slot but incorrectly oriented, i also just take it out solve it.
If you find a case that you want to find an alternative alg to, i found opticubes.com to be pretty nice - lots of F2L algs for each case
but then again if intuitive works for you, more power to you
