i was looking at ES cubes on ebay and i found a 2x2 that looks like it would be a good speedcube. but it says M2 by it, what does this mean? and there are other letters/ numbers on diff. cubes, all this is confusing.... help me please!

The M2 types are great. The edges on the M2 Eastsheens are really easy/fast when you're doing 2x2x2 BLD.

Yeah, Eastsheens are the "best" for speedcubing. The difference in "models' is just the packaging. You can find M2, E2, P2, C2, A2... they're all the same cube, just different packaging.

Lucas is joking, there is a method for blindfold solving the edges on a 3x3x3 that is named "M2", the same for corners is "R2".
