1H and 2H equivalents

I would say, at this stage, sub30 is a reasonable aim for new OHers, sub20 for the top. However, that sub20 will probably drop to sub17ish eventually.

Yes, that's exaclty the point. There is so much more potential for OH, I think setting the boundary at sub18 for the experts just isn't going to be fast enough.

There's so much potential for OH, that I think that OH as it is today, opposed to what it can turn into, is comparable to cubing in the 80's, and cubing today; I don't think anybody would've seen 10.xx averages coming back then, let alone Nakajima's sub-10 average (Harris almost got one too, but he accidentally closed Jnet)

I'm not sure if there's THAT much extra potential. We've already got the OH-optimized algorithms, the crazily awesome OH cubes (well, I don't have one, but all the Japanese OH guys do), and the high amounts of practice. The unofficial average times will probably get to 14-15 in the next few years but I don't think we're in a position of being like the 80s; maybe we're around late 2006 or so.

That reminds me. I hereby make an open bet of one US dollar, to anyone who wants to take it, that there will be at least two sub-20 OH averages at the Osaka Open on the 29th.

I agree with qqwerf... there isn't that much potential. if there was you have to be saying that we will get to sub-10 eventually. That may be possible as people learn more and more algs and actually implement things like ZB, which tho I was intially planning on pursuing I'm questioning if I want to put that much commitment into the cube. So yes the times will keep going down for a bit more...
and yes I think there will be two as well assuming Tomy and Serisuza both attend... tho other Japanese cubers have sub-20 none have it to quite the extent they do. I have a sub-20 average of 5 but not 10 so I doubt I'll get an official sub 20 anytime soon... maybe by the US Open...

oh my! That is insane! His OH is now faster than my 2H... :-(
I translated the blog and i am scared!
It appears Tomy has also learned a chunk of COLL as well. There goes my advantage with knowing more algs. Well I can pratice more and get the still NaR or NR...

Am I the only one too lazy to learn something different!?

Lofty, maybe you should take a break from OH cubing and then I mean not for a day, but for a month, it worked for me and most people improve alot when they haven't practised a puzzle for a while (ofcourse solve OH occasionaly).
And come on Lofty, why would you be scared? Stay relaxed and chill out with other cubers during competition. :)

haha I am thinking I am too lazy to learn all of ZB does that count?
and I don't cube near as much as I used to anymore. I just went on a week break and barely cubed at all, I hung out with friends I don't see now that I am at uni, so I don't cube like I used to. Don't think I'm still doing averages of 100 anymore lol.
I suppose it can't hurt to practice just 2H or 5x5 for awhile...
As for chilling out at competition, I am going to two comps in the next two months!
btw have you had sub-20 at home for a full average?

Hmm, full ZB... well I use semi-edge control, maybe I will learn COLL's too.

I had so many opportunities, but my choking habit is taking over, I even had a few opportunities to do sub 19.5, anyway since I have the WR(sorry don't want to brag) I quit OH, I surpassed my original goal and that was to be the #3 Dutch OH cuber at the Netherlands 2007. :P

Brian, how fast are you with the 5x5x5? Maybe we can set goals with eachother for the 5x5x5. :D

I use semi to full edge control... it can't hurt to learn the COLL's some of them are just the mirrors of algs I already know. I mailed Tomy about his COLL learning maybe he will give us some good algs.
I know all about choking. I have had my chances for sub 20 as well, today I had 5 sub-20's in an average but it was not ever sub 21 because of choke solves.
I am not fast at all with 5x5x5... I average maybe 4:30
