I have always paired up my edges horizontally but after watching Eric's vid it occured to me that vertically allows for faster fingers movements leading to faster times so I decided to try it that way and possibly easier recognition (not sure on that yet but less looking on the bottom seems like a good thing). Just wondering which way you guys are doing it.

I do vertically and average around 90 secs for the whole cube. Not sure of individual break ups.But Bernett Orlando does it horizontally and he is very good. But I remember him mentioning that most other cubers he met paired vertically.

I am doing it vertical, but I am not sure if I should change... It's hard ti find the pair that is in the D layer.

Okay...so it looks like I am on the right track in doing it vertical. Thanks guys for the confirmation.

i use x, but maybe verticle is better (lookahead and fingertricks). im also working on a method for pairing up edges faster with a 5x5

I pair with u/d moves. It takes no time at all to scan the U-layer for pieces, just like looking for F2L-pieces. And D-face is not that bad. I tried pairing with l/r for a while but didn't like it.

On 4x4x4, it's all on M except for the last two edges (if necessary).

On 5x5x5, it's mostly on M, except I do a z/z' before some of my insertions and all my flipping edges is on E. It's weird.

I feel that E allows for better fingertricking (for me, at least) but M allows for better lookahead.

I do horizontal pairing and have been practicing vertical pairing for ages.
Still horizontal pairing works faster for me.

Okay I tried doing it the vertical way but I just can't get the recognition fast enough to make it a worthwhile tradeoff. The moves are slower but overall it is faster so I will just have to stay with it.
