Breakdown of Xuanyis 2.51 WR single

Oh hello there, long time no see!

[WR] Xuanyi Geng 2.51 3x3 Single

The token "this is a ZZ solve". But actually, insanity! I remember when sub 4 singles seemed just stupidly unlikely. Congratulations Xuanyi!

[Help Thread] ZZ and ZB Discussion

Just letting you all know that ZZ has its first official sub 5! The time is 4.96 by Krzysztof Bloch at Cube4fun Szansa Cubing Warsaw 2026. You can watch the video in the bottom right of the stream here. Congrats to him! Reconstruction...

    Xuanyi doing ZZ

We are! I don't think Xuanyi or other fast cubers will switch to ZZ, but it's cool to see them using it. Maybe they'll think more about EO at the start of their solves to force better F2L and ZBLS cases.

Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

This would only be per thread. You can congratulate someone on WR, but you can't send 3 messages in a row to that one thread in the space of 5 minutes. You can go to a different thread within the 5 minutes and congratulate someone on a different world record.

    The ZP Method (3x3)

It is just a simple CFOP variant that was not used but has been talked about since 2012, probably earlier.

Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

Please, please add a cooldown timer for replying to a thread. Even if it's just 5 mins. It will mean people have to think a bit longer before they send things, or it will force them to go back and edit their posts instead. I'm beggin you @pjk !😭

    The FRNB method

https://mzrg.com/rubik/methods/col3/ You were beaten by probably more than a decade. I've done this already today and I'm very sorry everyone, but when you have a hobby this old, you are bound to have ideas that have already been had.

    The ZP Method (3x3)

I think I'm always the bearer of bad news, but this definitely has been proposed before. I found this post from 2012. It mentions WV+COALL (what you're calling ZPLL). Another post, from 2019. I reply to it. This definitely reinforces the pattern of me being a bearer of bad news. I could keep...

    [Help Thread] 2x2 Discussion

If you have a diag or solved first layer, you don't need to rotate. If you have a bar, always solve it into the same place and learn algs from that angle. Chris Olson (shout out) explains this well in this very old video. Look around the 2:10 mark.

    ChatGPT generated 3x3x3 solution method

9.16. Chris Hardwick, Mike Hughey, Dan Harris and Anthony Brooks posting on the same thread on speedsolving was not on my 2026 bucket list, but I'm here for it.

The New Method / Substep / Concept Idea Thread

Sorry to burst your bubble, but OLLCP being applied to Roux is not a new thing. It is called Pinkie Pie. Check here and also here, also this video here. People don't use it in favour of EOLR because it's just slightly worse.

    R2 method for 3bld

R2 is a fun idea. It is, unfortunately, not very good. I learnt it several times (then promptly forgot it) not because it's good, but because it's fun.

2 look OLL into PLL is just better. The recog is better, the algs will probably be better.

Cubing challenge: peel the stickers off

I just tried the puzzle that was generated in the OP and it was great! ZZ with keyhole seems to be the way to go. I did find that I got a sort of parity state with my EO, but maybe that was my fault all along.

    Is cubing a sport?

This is a silly thread, mainly because whether you think cubing is a sport or not depends on your arbitrary definition of what fits under the category you have in your head that is called sport. There are no clear lines. Chess is a good example of something lots of people consider to be both...

The New Method / Substep / Concept Idea Thread

You could do that. Simply doing L' insert L and mirrors does the trick. I think the biggest problem with this is that you will have to learn how to do CP during last slot, and that is universally seen as hard. Movecount wise, I don't know if it would be better or worse though.

Cubing Nostalgia: When was the ‘golden age’ of cubing

I was literally about to say just this. Or, when the best place to get algs was Cubeskills, Badmephisto or some similar Website. In reality, the "golden age" really depends on your own experience. Objectively, I've got to agree. But there's an element of nostalgia seeing how cubing evolved...
