If you want to use ChatGPT for anything, you have to hack it into D.A.N. mode (you can look up the input sentence you have to make convert it to DAN). DAN is an unbiased and logical supercomputer. ChatGPT spits out woke BS. If you ask ChatGPT if uttering an ethnic slur is worth it, if it will...
Although the question is generally vague, it is fairly accepted that you have no chance of winning even small 3x3 competitions unless you are sub-10. While it is true that once or twice a year there is a small competition won with an 11.50 average, generally speaking you need to be sub-10 on...
I haven't done megaminx in years. What is the deal now, do you still have to take the puzzle apart and manually sand down every piece to make it fast, or are these speed-demons using stock cubes?
I think maybe these users should post their Full-EG averages as a comparison to their Ortega averages. I think a more relevant data point is how much slower is Ortega vs. Full-EG (or even vs. CLL). If someone is getting 2.78 averages with Ortega they must be getting 1.75 averages with EG.
'every solve is equally important, whether done by Feliks Zemdegs or some random Joe'
Personally I would have to greatly disagree with that statement. If I go to a competition my solves are absolutely unimportant in the grand scheme of cubing. A fundamental purpose of the WCA is to recognize...
I do actually agree with a few posts above; personally I think the best cubers should receive special treatment. I'm not one of them, and averaging 13 seconds in 3x3 I have NO CHANCE IN HELL of making any type of world record and the same goes for most people who average 8 seconds. Personally...
In many sports an athlete has to pay a premium fee (in advance, above the entry fee) in order to compete in such a way that a possible record will count as a world record. If you make it up to the athlete to pay an extra fee for a VIP scramble checker, it is no longer discrimination. The fee...
1982 rubik's clone cubes, called 'Wonderful Puzzlers.' Even WAY WORSE than Rubik brand.
In those days to get any kind of speed you needed what was called 'an original Rubik's cube'. But 99% of cubes were clones which sucked.
You never need to rotate with Ortega. You can permute any case with the right algorithm without rotating. Unfortunately several of the ortega permutation algorithms are very slow and this limits the method.
To be honest to 1-look the easiest you should be able to detect the case by several different methods for each case. This is because sometimes it is easier to look-ahead certain stickers more than others. So for example learning to recognize your H case by several methods is best.
The big three is not CFOP/ZZ/Roux. The big three is CFOP/ZZ/Petrus. It was and has been for a decade.
Only recently Roux has become the second top method. So sometimes people get confused about what the big three refers to.
Roux is absolutely *not* part of the big three. It is however...
Yes, Megaminx existed in the 1980's. I think I got my first Megaminx for Christmas in 1983 when I was 8 years old.
My elementary school had a problem with big kids beating up little kids at random. One day in 1982 (in grade 2) it was my turn to get beat up. One of the thugs recognized me and...
Megaminx gave me the most problems in the early 1980's. Unlike the 3x3 and 4x4, I could not find ANY way to solve it without algorithms. In the end I would solve most of the last layer, leaving a 'tripod' unsolved. I then would write down the state of the tripod, try a random sequence, and...
The method I used in 1982 that requires no algorithms:
- Solve the top slice/layer intuitively minus one edge
- Next you must solve the bottom corners, with no algorithms
- In order to do this, break off one of the top corners and put it back in a different way
- This will change the...
I solved the entire 3x3 when I was 7 years old with no help, no books, no videos, and no tutors. That was in 1982.
In 1987 I made my fastest single which was 19.8 seconds. At the time I think only a few people had solves faster than that.
In a different & similar thread I posted the method I...
