[AsR] Yiheng Wang 2.77 3x3 Single

What I find the most incomprehensible is the F2L reconstruction looks non-finger-tricky. How anyone can do those moves at 15 TPS is hard to understand.

Long term timeline for 1-look CFOP / ZB to overtake 3-style as the mainstream 3BLD method

Watching the 1-look CFOP video, it occurred to me there may actually be a real purpose for 1LLL. If you know 1LLL all you have to do is mentally solve F2L and determine each piece of the last layer, then use one memorized alg to solve it. Without that, it is far harder; if you use ZBLS...

Method similar ZB but for Corners

It does bring up an interesting point that could be relevant to the distant future of cubing. Namely, ZBLS solves the last slot and orients the four LL edges. But really you could modify ZBLS to orient 2 edges and 2 corners, or any combination of last layer pieces. This would change the ZBLL...

Method similar ZB but for Corners

Is someone able to calculate the number of algs for last layer with corners oriented? It has to be way less than ZBLL because orienting the edges reduces the LL cases by a factor of 8 (from 1LLL) and orienting the corners should reduce it by a factor of 27 (from 1LLL). So my best guess is the...

    [ New method]

In that case it starts to look like ZBRoux, where you leave out DF/DB, then solve DF/DB+EO, then ZBLL, which I personally believe is the second best method after ZB.

    [ New method]

The only way I think it could be useful is if you solve DF, while orienting the edges and also either (permuting corners) OR (permuting edges). Then, the ZBLL step has way fewer algorithms, making it more accessible to mid level solvers. It still wouldn't be better than the ZB method though.

Do you think lookahead is getting pointless

I think you're missing that the very skill of mentally planning ahead during inspection is using advanced lookahead, it's just that the lookahead happens during the inspection.

Old Gen VS New Gen Cubing

Old-generation cubing isn't 2010's. It would be 1980's. Then the second generation would be 1990-2002 which was the dormant era of cubing. The third generation would be 2003-2011, then 2012-2019, then 2020-present. So there are five eras or gens of cubing.

    The ZP Method (3x3)

Even if it is not new, it does bear a parallel to the ZB method. I just think of it as the ZB method except the ZBLS step solves the last pair while orienting the corners (rather than the edges). And now the LL step instead of 493 cases only has 155. But presumably the ZBLS step has a lot...

Full LMCF 3x3 method now available

You are basically describing WaterRoux. In the highest form of WaterRoux you solve Roux first block and ALL the corners in a single look, using either LEG-1, L5C, or CMLL. It is well known that it is possible to one look all of that at once but there hasn't been enough interest for a top...

Long term timeline for 1-look CFOP / ZB to overtake 3-style as the mainstream 3BLD method

Honestly one look F2L still blows my mind beyond words. My only explanation is the child's brain developed as a cubing supercomputer that can track pieces almost unconsciously. This is similar to people who learn chess at a young age and can see approximately 7 moves into the future but not...

The New Method / Substep / Concept Idea Thread

Back in 1981-1983 this was an actual method, one of the most popular methods, and it totally sucks (sorry). Back then people had a limited understanding of the cube. Solving corners first was only a thing for people who had 'advanced' knowledge of cube geometry. Most of the population would...

    PROBLEM WITH CFOP METHOD

You need to set the timer to 3-phase and hit the space bar after cross, after F2L and at the end of the solve. This will give 3 segments of time for each solve. A single time like you have posted does not give useful information.

I'm still confused how you can fix DR and DL using only M-U moves.

    Making A New Speedcubing Method

If you have a pseudo-cross on the bottom with edges that are mixed & disoriented, how you can fix that with M-U moves? The DR and DL edges would have to be solve and that would take S moves....

    PROBLEM WITH CFOP METHOD

The first thing you need to do is time cross, time your 4 pairs, time OLL+PLL and post us the times, then we can help much better. Set cstimer to 3-phase and hit the keyboard when you finish cross, hit the keyboard again when you finish F2L, and finally the last time when you complete the solve...

Any tips to get a sub 20 solve

We are all assuming the OP is using CFOP. If so, in addition to the other suggestions I suggest learning full algorithmic F2L at least for the FR slot. Beginners often have a very hard time efficiently solving F2L pairs intuitively, even if they learn some cases via alg they will constantly run...

Cubing Nostalgia: When was the ‘golden age’ of cubing

Magnetic cubes were only illegal for about 3 months after they were first released. I can't recall the exact date the first magnetic cubes came out, I think it was 2017 or 2018.
