Wait... you're doing ZZ EO, not Petrus EO. For Petrus EO, after doing EO with 223 in the back, you should be able to do a y' then solve F2L with only R U. What you're doing is basically bad Petrus-W, where you do ZZ EO then solve F2L (with 223 in back) with R U L

Well... Owen, IDK how, but your 2x2x3 is insanely fast, that’s basically my speed and I’m sub 15. Last Layer is pretty good as well, obviously. EO... Read EVERYTHING on the lar5.com link I sent you, pay attention to the advanced but to understand it. F2L, learn 2x2x1 blockbuilding, and then 2 gen F2L pairs. Or just do cross insert, solve.

PetrusQuber
My splits for sub 19 (close enough) were:
Roughly -
2x2x2 - 2.5 seconds
2x2x3 - 4 seconds
EO - 1-3 seconds
F2L - 4-6 seconds
LL - 4-5 seconds
Note 2x2x3 there could be better, and so could EO (1-3). Once you’re good with EO, it’s just a bunch of lightning fast triggers you have to know and recognise.

Could you tell me your F2L movecount also, and movecount for individual steps?
PetrusQuber
PetrusQuber
Should be around 35, with 2x2x2 less than 8 moves, 2x2x3 less than 10, EO normally 6ish, F2L 15 ish.

Yeah I am really trying to not just put in cross pieces and solve F2L, That kinda just defeats the point of Petrus because it takes so many more moves. I really need to work on EO, I think I am just having some trouble with cases that lar5.com didn't have, like where FR and FL both are misoriented, and some others. My EO is probably 20 moves on average which is definitely the reason my solves are not so good.

Also on the one solve where I had an EO skip I got a 9.4. I think I will just mess around with a cube for a while and try to understand edge orientation.

FR and FL misoriented, I solve with F’ U’ R’ F’ R. Hopefully I can explain some techniques to you when I upload some intermediate Petrus tutorials. I really recommend watching these for help:
It’s definitely worth it.

huh your solution orients FR but not FL, it also mis orients some other edges. Maybe it does orient them and I can't even tell because I am such a petrus newbie :p I'll watch those videos and see if they help.
PetrusQuber
PetrusQuber
Definitely doesn’t...

also @ProStar if you do a y' rotation after EO then it miss orients some of the edges. How am I supposed to not solve the last two edges without RUL?
PetrusQuber
PetrusQuber
Do you know the definition of bad edge? An edge that, when put into it’s correct place using the two free sides, is misoriented. I still think you’re still slightly confused, you are supposed to solve EO with RUL - what Prostar was saying was that you’re doing EO relative to the RUL sides (with two unsolved layers at F and U), instead of EO relative to FU (two unsolved layers at F and U)
PetrusQuber
PetrusQuber
Also, how does y’ misorient edges??? You haven’t even moved any pieces...

Owen your doing ZZ EO. Petrus EO is different, and a bad edge is different. The key stickers are your two front center colors. Let's say it's yellow and green in this example solve. If the piece has yellow, it should be pointing towards the yellow center and/or away from the green center. If the piece has green, then it should be pointing towards the green center and/or away from the yellow center

Using this definition of EO you can solve it with 223 in the back with R U L F moves (F and U won't actually change the orientation of a piece) Then, if you rotate with a y' (making the two free sides R U instead of F U) you can now solve the rest of F2L using only R U (with 223 on left now). The entire F2L should be solved, and yellow cross will be completed, allowing you to do LL

(had to have bad grammar because of character limit, sorry :P)

wait so what defines a good edge and a bad edge in Petrus EO? and what defines a bad edge or a good edge in ZZ EO? What is the difference between ZZ EO and Petrus EO?
PetrusQuber
PetrusQuber
ZZ EO orients edges so if you bring it to it’s correct position using RUL moves, the edge is oriented correctly. Petrus EO orients so if you bring it to it’s correct position using RU moves, the edge is oriented. (y’ R U, that is)

So, for ZZ, the key sticker should always be pointing to a key center, while in Petrus the key sticker should be pointing away from the other key center and/or towards the key center with the same color as the edge
