Square-1 WR?

He got a bad scramble on the 7.58 and asked the WCA to remove that result (change it to DNF)

I think he did the right thing. I would be much more proud to have the WR with a full step solution than a solve that was really lucky.
Getting lucky is not a crime. If he had gotten a lucky scramble/solve he would (and should) have gotten the WR.

What happened in this case was that he got a scramble that nobody else got and that wasn't the correct scramble. He didn't know that at the time (how would he have known) and solved the puzzle. Afterwards he found out about the bad scramble, contacted the WCA and asked to remove the result. The only thing that could be done at that point was take a DNF which he chose to do.

I admire him for doing so, despite the consequences and especially because none of this was his fault. I am really happy that he got the WR this way. Maybe we should provide Disney with this story so they can make a movie about him?
