¤ On the WCA website, under competition results, sometimes next to a time there will be a short acronym. Can anyone tell me what they mean? I can't find the meanings anywhere.

I've seen
WR (World Record, i know that)
NR (Near record.?)
ER
NAR
AsR

Thanks to anyone who reads this or posts. :)

NR = National Record
ER = European Record
NAR = North American Record
AsR = Asian Record
AfR = African Record
AuR = Australian Record
SAR = South American Record

and I'm guessing if there's anyone from Antarctica, it will be AnR

If he breaks the world record, it's a world record. If he only breaks the European record, but the world record is held by an American or Asian, he gets the European record. How hard is that to understand?

I've always wondered this. But if, say, Erik (who lives in Europe) breaks the world record in an event. It will only become a WR, but not a ER?

It would be the WR, ER, and NR for the Netherlands. It would only be announced as the world record, since obviously if it is the fastest time in the world, it would also be the fastest time in Europe and in the Netherlands.

Sorry, I've always wondered about the different types of records, and I only get confused when a person holds both a world record and another (continent) record. But I get it now.
