Hey guys,

here is a fast motion video of my (Maximilian Neitzel) 24h cube world record, which I did a couple of weeks ago. We talked in German so most of you will not understand anything from the highlight scenes, but I wanted to post the video here aswell. It would be really nice if there is anyone who can enter the record at speedcubing.com, beause every time I tried to enter it I got an error.

additional information and statistics:

cubes/hour: 266 267 240 255 167 263 242 251 234 249 241 236 196 198 266 196 230 203 228 181 178 0 213 0
I started at 19:08 (better known as 7:08 pm) and finished it around 18:08. My goal was of course to break the world record, but I wanted to solve 5000 cubes aswell. After hour 16 I had massive troubles with my arms and hands! It was by far the biggest pain of my life and I don't know how I finished, but I managed to do it somehow. Hour 15 was so sick, because after a break I tried to beat the world record for the most cubes in 1 hour, which I set on hour 2 and I failed by only 1 cube. But an hour after this I felt racking pains in my arms and fingers and I started to think about the sence of life and why I do crazy things like this.
At the end a BIG THANK to my team of TWO! cubers: David Kerkmann and Michael Gerlt, who managed to film the whole event, while never missing a beat at scrambling! It was an outstanding performance from their side.

some statistics:

17,28 sec/cube
208,3333 cubes/hour
3,4722/cubes/minute
OLL skips: 18
PLL skips: 67
LL skips: 0
Neitzel OLLs: 97

Record set on June 29-30

Very nice, I'd never be able to maintain a decent speed for so long.

The scramblers deserve some credit too, I'd never last an hour just scrambling xD

The Neitzel OLL is to solve this pattern:

with this algorithm:

r' U r2 U' r2' U' r2 U r'

And of course executed with my special fingertricks (maybe I should record a video of it^^). But it is really easy to figure out how I perform it. The most important thing is that you start the OLL with your index finger on RUB like the start of sexy J so that you don't have to regrip and be able to perform everything smoothly.

p.s. I hope that this little alg gets famous someday to be a little part of cubing history :)

This is pretty bad@$$... I honestly can't imagine keeping consistent for that period of time. By hour 3 or 4 I would lose my mind.

The Neitzel OLL is to solve this pattern:

with this algorithm:

r' U r2 U' r2' U' r2 U r'

That's basically the alg I use to solve that case, but I tend to give it a U2 and to Lw's and inverse the Us instead. Do you have a video of the fingertrick you use?

Kudos on the WR - impressive stamina!!!

r' U r2 U' r2' U' r2 U r'
Nice alg - it's the 3rd one on the wiki for this case. I've just tried it - it's really trickable and nice. I don't know any of the L cases, but from what I can see there's a nice set of 'wide r' algs for the 4 cases with 3 top face stickers on the side.

With the L shape on the right side of the cube:

OLL 53 - r' U' R U' R' U R U' R' U2 r
OLL 54 - r U R' U R U' R' U R U2 r'
OLL 49 - r U' r2 U r2 U r2 U' r (inverse Neitzel?)
OLL 50 - r' U r2 U' r2' U' r2 U r' (Neitzel OLL)
What algs do you use for the other 'L' cases?

The most I ever did was 3500 on my second attempt and was only able to go on until the 20 hour mark because of pain and fatigue in my hands. Back in 2008 the cubes were much heavier/harder to turn than the cubes nowadays and that may have factored into the stamina aspect of it. Still, 5000 is incredible and so are the two scramblers who helped you. Congratulations!
