I've been lurking these forums ever since I got back into cubing around a week ago (cubed for 2 months, then kinda forgot about it). My current 3x3 average is sub-40, which I've been getting using F2L, 2-look OLL, and beginner's method for PLL. I also got my best time and first sub-30 ever today (25.4), so I'm pretty excited. I use a Zhan Chi for 3x3, Lan Lan for 2x2 (getting Dayan soon). I've also got an mf8 Megaminx I never use, a 4x4 Shengshou that I don't use because it keeps popping, and a prototype Zhan Chi I got in a raffle.

My other interests are videogames, guitar, piano, learning Japanese, and programming.

Anyway, I hope to be more active in the cubing community now, especially now that I'm going to the US for college, so I'll actually be able to go to competitions (when I improve, that is).

Start learning full PLL (1-look). It improves your times dramatically and gets you used to learning new algs without having too many to learn all at once.

Huh, would it make a difference if I started with full PLL? I think I'm going to go for 2-look because I currently suck at learning algorithms XD I'm going to start learning full PLL and OLL when my F2L's around 10 seconds, since that's what's slowing me down the most.

There's no better way of getting better at learning algs than learning algs :)

NO NO NO

Learn 2 look PLL first

When I first transitioned from Petrus to CFOP, I found 2 Look PLL to be... well... a hinderance.

2 Look PLL = U, H, Z for Edges, and A, E for Corners.

G Perms are pretty easy to 2 Look, just 1 U and 1 A, each. But I found J, T, R, F, V, N, and Y become VERY cumbersome to solve in only 2 Looks.

Reason being those perms have 1 pair Edges switched and 1 pair corners flipped. A lot of times you wind up having to cycle edges twice (Ux2) AND corners twice (Ax2), and all of a sudden your 2 Look becomes a 4 Look. And that eats a lot of your time.

Personally? I went straight to 1 Look PLL. And I'm very glad I did.

Haha, I know, I should probably just stop procrastinating.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm going to practice my F2L for a bit longer and then move on to full PLL.
