My personal best is 39.6 sec but I was super lucky. My averages however are only about 45-55 seconds. Please tell me what I could do to drop my times down.
Practice, practice, practice. There are some great posts on this forum about
how to practice, and analyse the weakest aspects of your solving
systematically. I cannot recommend these enough. There are a million and 1 posts on this forum, most stickied (i.e. will always show when browsing the relevant forum) for '
how to be sub 20' etc.
I have a Dayan Zhanchi and plan to buy a FangShi and with the Zhanchi my times have barely dropped if any at all. I didn't tension it yet though cuz it's a pain to tighten it and get it just right.
Use Cyoubix
tensioning tutorial . Definitely worth doing, as it will reduce your lock-ups dramtically. Don't rely on a cube to make you fast, they aren't magic. I used to buy new cubes for this reason, now I just buy them because I like buying cubes! Cubes won't make you faster, practice will. You need to improve what your hands are doing, not what they're holding!!!
Thank you! I use Fridrich method and know about 4 OLL's and 3 PLL's.
Learn PLLs first - there are only 21, and you already know 3, so 18 left to learn. It may seem like a lot at first, but it will make a big difference to your times. In terms of OLL, 2-look systems are more than enough. I use 2-look OLL, and I average 22-23 seconds. I have no intention of learning 1-look for some time yet. I think 2-look OLL is 9 algs in total (flip 2 edges, flip 4 edges, then 7 corners only algs). Look at
Badmephisto's website for an easy, accessible tutorial.
Thank you so much!! What lube would you recommend for the Zhanchi cuz all I have is CRC Heavy Duty Silicone.
I've no experience with CRC, I use Lubicle, which is similar to Lubix. Many people swear by diff oil, which is available from hobby shops, and is basically the same thing.
The answer to 99% of all cubing questions is practice. As you learn PLLs, they will become ingrained with practice. With more practice, you'll be able to recognise the PLL without having to turn the cube. With more practice, your algs will get faster. So practice, but do so with certain aims in mind, such as 'I will try to use my new alg when a certain PLL comes up', or 'I will try to insert F2L case X using a new, more efficient method'. Don't be afraid to stop while practicing, and look up a new alg. Let's say you come across an F2L case you find hard... stop, look up a way of doing it, look at what the alg does, and give it a go.
Above all this, welcome to the forum - it's a great place to be and a goldmine of information. Just by browsing here for advice and practicing I've got down from 72ish seconds to 22. Good luck, and happy cubing!
