Lately on the home page of the forum, there's been a lot of introduction threads. That's a good thing, but most of those introduction threads have been changed into a thread for the original poster to post up their updates/ personal bests. It may just be me, but it's sort of getting annoying.

There's a reason why the thread is in the "Members Introduction" sub forum. It's for a new user to introduce themselves to show others that they're new. It's not a sub forum for updates and personal bests. That's what the Accomplishment thread is for.

I mean, it's great that people are improving and talking with other people, but the threads are sort of cluttering the home page and setting a bad example for other users when they make their own introduction thread. I've seen a few new users posting videos of themselves cubing on their introduction threads and asking for help. That's what the solve critque thread is for.

I've made this thread to see if other users of the forum feel the same way as me.

It's nice to have "New Member" threads on the homepage, since they'd get more replies, making it more welcoming for new members. If they turn into personal accomplishment threads that are constantly being bumped, then they're just cluttering the homepage. I agree that these PB update posts belong in the accomplishment threads instead of introduction threads. I'll talk to some of the other moderators to see what we should do about this.

Yea, I have nothing against regular introductions.

Maybe an update subforum that doesn't bump to the home page, and a user can just keep their updates there? Just a thought.

Is there any way that the mods could stop the threads appearing on the homepage after a certain amount of time/number of posts, in the same way that the Forum Competitions don't get bumped?

Why is it a problem? Some of those threads turn into good discussions or conversations. They aren't clutter to those who want to read them. Those who don't can always ignore them.

Actually only Kattenvriendin and Marcel does that. Am fine with it lol, it doesn't bother me very much. There are more important things to be annoyed at.

I'm quite fine with it too. Although there have been a lot of other people who have tried and failed to get the same traction on their threads. I personally don't read these two threads anymore, as from memory they mostly seemed to be talking to each other. Take some of it onto pm guys? But member introductions need to be on the homepage to welcome people in.

yes, but introduction threads aren't the place for that.
Who says? It's a community. If people enjoy forming discussions that way, let them. If it's not popular it will die on its own.

As a separate comment, I don't like threads like the accomplishment thread. If all you want to do is publicly log a PB, great, but I never read it because I'm not interested in just a log. I do read Marcel's and others' threads as there is interesting and enjoyable conversation in there.

It is what it is. Over a thousand replies just shows that people like it.

Not really. The point of an introduction thread should just be an initial post saying who you are and introducing yourself to the forum. Then a couple of people welcome you, and then you move onto the forum proper to post any other stuff.

It's not a /huge/ problem. It's just annoying for people. The content of the thread would be better suited elsewhere.

The "Hi, Marcel from Holland here" thread has been popping up on the frontpage for a year. That is no longer an introduction.

You don't understand why that thread exists. The accomplishment thread was made because there was a constant flood of topics about people's times. Not everyone can have their own personal update thread - the userbase is way too large for that.

If I posted pictures of animal genitals and the thread received over a thousand replies, that is not a reason for keeping the thread open.

Feel free to remove my 'Hi, Marcel from Holland here' topic from introductions and move to off any place you like or simply delete it if that makes you happy. I for one like reading other people's personal 'welcome' topics. I don't care much for the accomplishment topic.
