I think there's still a lot of room for improvement. I don't turn that fast. In fact, look at the last 12 seconds of my solve. It took me 12 seconds to do the remaining two F4L pairs and LL :S I think sub 1 singles are probably possible, I'm not sure about a sub 1 average. I think perhaps I need to find a better way of pairing the last layer tredges...

My current average is about 1:20, only 2-3 seconds slower than my standard reduction pbs. My best average of 5 with this method is 1:16.

Scramble: F Dw2 F2 Bw2 U2 B' L Lw' Uw2 Rw2 B Dw2 Bw L' Bw Lw' Uw' F Uw' Fw2 Bw2 Uw R2 F' U D2 Rw' U2 L' Bw B2 Rw' Bw Dw Rw Uw Lw2 U' B2 Rw' Fw' Dw2 Bw' Uw Bw' U Dw' Lw Rw2 Bw2 Uw' Lw' Rw B' Lw2 F Rw' Bw2 Dw2 D

Cool solve, I was thinking about doing this while wasting time at work today... Gives me hope it would be a good idea to switch :3

Your pairing is weird but for the first 4 post-yaucross I feel like it's probably the best. Also CN for this seems really hard. I would probably do white/yellow centres first, then yellow cross, then white edges on U, and finish L4E freeslice style...

Just so you are aware, there are 2 F2L pairs done here, and yes, CN is hard.

2 Centres -> 3 Cross Edges -> L4C -> Finish Cross -> Freeslice F4L Tredges (-> Realign centres) -> 2 F4L Pairs -> LL Tredges (2 pair style) -> XXCross finish 3x3.

32 seconds
6 centers + 4 edges it's fast

Thanks! I believe that's Feliks' centres + any 4 edges avg is about 25-30 based on Brest's reconstructions and that's without cross. If I can average about 30 seconds on this step, that would be quite nice.

I like the blue line on your laptop.

Heh thanks, it lights up whenever the charger is connected to it :p

"Yes! I'm finally getting mid-1:30 times for Yau on 5x5! Maybe I'm actually good at something"

"Oh nevermind"

Well I've changed the method slightly, maybe you can get faster now :)

Seems like a pretty good way to Yau on 5x5, and a good single. I'll probably try this a little. Also, does that really count as not turning fast these days?

Yeah I think I don't turn that fast but my times are kinda good for my turning speed. I'm sure sub 1:05 avgs are possible with better tps.

2 Centres -> 3 Cross Edges -> L4C -> Finish Cross -> Freeslice F4L Tredges (-> Realign centres) -> 2 F4L Pairs -> LL Tredges (2 pair style) -> XXCross finish 3x3.

Noobish request. Would anyone mind explaining those last steps?

What I think it's saying, but doesn't make sense: match up 4 edges, 2 corner/edge pairs?, match up the remaining edges,...and I have no idea what XXCross is.

What I think it's saying, but doesn't make sense: match up edges that belong in the F4L, pair 2 completed edges with their respective corners (and place them?), match up last layer edges,...and I have no idea what XXCross is.

What it's saying is that you first need to match up the triple edges (tredges) that are in the F4L (Freeslice F4L Tredges), then realign the centers, then do two of the four F4L pairs, then pair up the last layer tredges by using two pairing, and then once that is all done, you will have a double X-Cross (XXCross) which is an extended cross where you have the cross and two of the F4L pairs.

Oh, and side note, any idea when the next competition will be?

Could you possibly do some example solves for 5x5 L4C? I just don't get how you can do centres so damn fast :p

I think the key to this step is just being really efficient. I can't say exactly how I do it, but just generally try to take advantage of bars and preserve them at the same time. But I will make some more videos soon.

Yeah you got it. Build the first 4 layer edges. By that I mean the edges on the E layer. Then 2 corner/edge pairs. It's important that these pairs are adjacent and NOT opposite to each other.

The term XXCross is derived from "Double extended cross" which is simply a cross + 2 pairs.

Double extended cross --> Double XCross --> XXCross

Mollerz meant that after you finished reduction, you would be left with an XXCross. Basically, just finish off the 333 step.

Funny thought: If you were to do F2L in one go you might call it a XXXXCross which could be interpreted by some foreigner as "cross cross cross cross cross" :p

I got most of that. Thanks guys!

On 2 F4L Pairs, are you using 2 of the edges formed in the previous step? In which case are you intentionally matching up 2 adjacent E layer edges...and potentially ignoring other easy tredges?

Oh, and side note, any idea when the next competition will be?
We're looking for venues...hopefully some time in the next couple months

how do you do l4e so fast? so many flips

edit: wait did you do the f4l 2 pairs xxcross on purpose or was that accidental? meaning u do that for every solve?

Congrats for the solve! I'm really impressed and happy that such times can be achieved with this method.
I started using your method, Yau, on 4x4 since the beginning....like 2.5 years ago, a few months after you posted it if I'm not wrong. I like(d) it a lot...too bad I didn't practice more with it.
At the same time I was trying to implement it also on the 5x5 cube. I had like 2 variations of it for 5x5, which were both faster for me than the bigcubes method on 5x5. Again...too bad I didn't practice with it from that moment.
I'm still curious to see some walkthrough solves from you on the 5x5. ;)

I had never considered solving 2fl pairs before. This changes everything. Mad props OP, mad props. 6x6 now plox XD
Yes I do it for every solve, it's part of the method. It's not supposed to a special trick. I know, it seems a bit strange to break up half of a step and do the other half later :p As for 6x6x6 and up... I think this method kinda fails.

Yeah I tried to implement some of the good things from yau on 4x4x4 and freeslicing on 5x5x5 and this was the result.

About the walkthrough solves... Does anyone mind if the cross colour isn't always the same? I can just do white everytime if preferred. Just asking before I receive any minor complaints :p
