So I was talking to a cube supplier in China and I was using a translator so communication wasn't perfect, but he said that the alpha CC has stopped production to make a second generation Alpha cc!

Has anyone else heard this or similar rumors of it?

Dammit, I just ordered an Alpha CC. Well I guess it's going to take a while for this one to get out, hopefully.

If you plan to use the edge-"anchors" then please check if you received the screws that you can use to fix those onto the edges with. If you didn't, then you may want to glue them on. Otherwise they'll start falling off after a while.
The edge-anchors are important IMO, if you choose not to use them then your corners might start to twist, which is a real pain.

I initially received my CC without the edge thingies (because Alpha decided to sell the cube without them at some point). I complained, whereupon they were promptly sent out a few days later (still didn't send the screws though :(). The "anchors" have tracks in them that accommodate the corner bases and that helps tone down the corner twisting and popping considerably. You'll still be plagued by twisting corners, but it happens less often with them in.

Oh, and solve it without lube for a while so that the pieces wear in a bit. If you lube it straight away, then the break in process takes ages on the CC.

OT:

I'm guessing they're going to address the corner twisting and the overall fragileness of the cube. At least I hope they will. The first version is too light IMO, It feels really surreal to solve because it's so light and airy. And it locks up far too often to allow me to enjoy it. The first CC is still an awesome piece of kit though. The intricacy of the parts is a sight to behold. I tend to see it as a concept cube that just needs refining...

I really hope I get them without any struggle, because I also understand they prevent poping better. And I love my AV-F, because it never pops, really.

Yeah, one of the reasons I ordered one is because I fell in love with the looks of it the moment I saw it, which was about the time i took a looong break from cubing. Now I'm back, and ready for more. I don't mind it being light as feather though, but for the corner twisting, well I suppose that and the poping will be improved in the CC2. Seems like most "high-tech" cubes have problems with corner twisting, am I right?

I wouldn't worry, I'm pretty sure that they went back to selling them with those pieces included. If you don't get them with the cube, then just ask for them like I did.

Same here, the first pics that popped up had me in awe. The design just oozes "speed".

The performance of the cube does kinda pull you back into reality though, I was under whelmed.

It's quite similar to the Alpha V-f, so if you like that cube, this one will probably satisfy your expectations. I'm an AV-f fan myself, it's an awesome piece of kit. I just prefer the DaYan cubes over Alpha ones.

I think Dayan got the formula right with the GuHong and have managed to best themselves with each new offering (some may dispute the LingYun and the LunHui though).

Alpha are also sticking to their guns in terms of their own evolution. Which shows that they are proud of their cubes. I respect that, but It's going to take considerably more effort if they want to catch up with DaYan in terms of overall performance IMO.

Sure, corners can twist, but this thing is far more prone to allow corner twisting than the other cubes I have. And the holes in the corners have the tendency to chew your fingertips once in awhile if you don't hold the cube neatly. I'm sure that doesn't happen to everybody though, it's just something I've noticed when I play with mine.

anyway, not to waffle on; enjoy the cube and have fun :)

Regards,

H.
