Making a Competition in Portugal

Hello cubing community :P

The title says everything. If you are European, you know that there are no competitions in Portugal and I really want to start a new one.

We have already made a comp., but it was 2 or 3 years ago (I wasnt even there, because I started this after that). We had to ask for help to the Spanish cubers to bring the hardware (like Timers and everything else). Their sponsor was Goliath (hope I'm not making advertising :) ).

My question is: what can I do to make another comp. I need some tips. I have already talked to the delegate of Spain and he says that we just have to get a place the the event. But speedcubing isnt very popular around here. I mean, no one knows this.

Goliath says that the competition must be at a shopping centre (probably it is more rentable that way). I have already talked to some malls but they dont want to make a comp. there. Any ideas?

If someone knows anything to bring a comp. to Portugal say know.

And please dont judge us (portugal) for our economic situation :P

Holy crap What a wonderful idea.
I'm portuguese myself, but I'm just going to write this post in english so everyone is able to understand it.

Where were you planning on having the competition, Lisbon? Maybe if the malls don't want to host competitions, we could come up with a way to show them that cubing is amazing and would atract a lot of people, both cubers and people watching.

Again, wonderful idea, would love to be a part of it

A hotel would be even more difficult in my opinion, but I will try something out soon.

I really want to go to a competition but I just dont want to spend a lot of money to travel to other countries

Unless we find a mall in Porto or Lisbon willing to have us, Goliath won't sponsor it. Given all the rejections so far we'd have to find a sponsor willing to do it somewhere else (which is just as hard in this country).

I don't mind driving to Spain if it's not too far but the latest competitions were on the east shore so I passed them.
