I got into speedcubing about a year ago, but then stopped for a while. I just got my average below 40 seconds with the Petrus method. I have a GuHong and hopefully will get a ZhanChi soon.

Why is it than in every single intro thread made by someone using Petrus people say "switch to Fridrich, you'll be faster". It's so frustrating. Petrus is fast too and can certainly be as fast as CFOP or any other method.
@OP: Probably a lot of people will tell you along the way that you should change to CFOP. Petrus is fine and fast.
Proof

I understand this. I am less concerned with the ultimate speed of the method than with how much it interests me, so that's why I use Petrus. Also, OLL is terrifying.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Make sure to check out the wiki and FAQ and use the search bar when looking for information.
Petrus is a very cool method use it. It'll help if you ever get into FMC and learning roux next seems like a good idea. Blockbuilding isn't as easy to learn when you use a LBL method for a long time.

Did it ever occur to you that some of those people may be thinking of the fact that if he wants/needs help with Petrus it will be very hard to get that help compared to CFOP or Roux. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

If people stopped telling new cuber's to use cfop/roux there would be more petrus user's. Besides petrus is cool.

I plan on learning it eventually, but I'll probably learn Roux next. It just seems more interesting.

Do it. I wish I had your way of thinking. Welcome to the forums.

(<3 Fridrich, but only Fridrich ((I guess Old pochman counts plus I know how petrus works ,but I am way faster with Fridrich. ))

I'm new to this forum, not new to cubing. I understand the pros and cons of each method. Nothing you guys say will change the fact that I enjoy using Petrus. I'm not saying that I will never learn CFOP. It's just not high on my list.

If you like Petrus by all means stick with it, it can be fast. If you like Roux, explore it, it also can be fast. Both can be just as fast as CFOP... don't listen to thackernerd.

He can explore and experiment himself, and become fast by experimenting on his own. If he enjoys the method he'll improve much faster.

Welcome! Imo I think you should learn the fridrich method if you plan on continuing cubing and getting faster.

No! There are way too many CFOP users already! I think its awesome that he uses Petrus and who says CFOP is faster?

A lot of people say that petrus and roux are just as fast as fridrich when it's just not. I'm not trying to make noahaha use fridrich because I don't think he really cares about time right now, but you have to agree with me that CFOP is faster though.

Of course they can be faster. It just depends how you use the method and how good you are at it. There is no "fastest" method.
