Noob Cuber

Have any of you guys have had experience with both the stickered Guhong and the non stickered Guhong? I'm trying to decide between the two, and the only thing I can see is better on the non stickered Guhong is that I won't need to change stickers.

Wow take it easy there.
Welcome to the forums.
I would start off with a cube that doesnt turn quick but isnt a total brick to turn. You're not gonna get fast with a fast cube. Guhong is amazing get it and use it for as long as possible.

Go with the stickered one since the nonstickered one isn't comp legal.

Do you ever plan to go to an official competition? Stickerless can't be used in competition. That's the only difference, really.

John, you can't use the nonstickered version in comp if that has an effect on your decision.
Near if not identical in performance but you are stuck with the colours which are just a little different to the standard CS shades.

Gotta love the woner.

I've seen people say that you should use Storeboughts first before moving onto cubes like Type A etc.

I've seen people say that you should use cubes like Type A first before moving onto Dayan.

If this misconception about what cubes to use continues and people keep giving this bad advice, I'm sure people will recommend using a Dayan cube first before moving onto (insert next greatest advancement in cubing). This makes no sense.

It's like saying that Python is a bad first programming language to learn and everyone should start with punch cards.

Punch cards are way out of our time, using that bad metaphor, it's like saying before you use a storebought, you should make your own god damn cube; you know melt the plastic, and then form it yourself, and then, and only then may you use an extremely new cube. just the Rubik's brand is as easily accessible as other new cubes, doesn't mean you should get the new cubes either. and no i'm not saying that you should use a horrible cube, i'm jut saying that you should use a cube only because you think it'll make you go faster, getting a Zhanchi will not make you go from 1 minute to sub 10 in one night.

Some other people are throwing this out of proportion, and going to extremes of situations.

I don't see myself going to competitions right now, but just in case, I'm gonna get the Guhong with stickers, and probably switch the stickers out with Cubesmith stickers

Yep. it is like saying that. THE THINGS THAT YOU ARE SAYING ARE LIKE THAT

Oh cool you carry on ignoring my requests for evidence and just keep parroting your incorrect beliefs.

it doesn't matter how fast you are, you should go to a competition, they're lots of fun, even if you're not that fast, you might find friends that are as fast as you, or maybe even faster, and give you tips! either way going to a competition is a fun experience.

Actually, it's a perfect metaphor. Punch cards are the original thing but absolute hell to use. That describes storeboughts pretty well.

If you were originally trying to say not to buy a cube thinking that the cube alone would work miracles, then 1. We all know that and 2. You should have said that in the first place, because you definitely didn't say that.

What exactly does a contest entail, other than solving puzzles? Do you also have to know how to judge, or just how to solve?

I have one last question. Is it fine to start with any Rubik's Cube tutorial, or is there a method that's better for transitioning into faster methods?

Depends what method you want to transition into?
Any LBL method is good for CFOP but blockbuilding methods like roux or petrus need to be learned from the beggining since blockbuilding is a hard skill to learn after you use a LBL method for a long time. If you wanna learn a blockbuilding method start now cause it will help if you wanna get into FMC later on.

So much vocabulary I don't know...
Since 2 people recommended Petrus, I guess I'll start with that.
Is LBL = Layer by Layer? I don't know any of the others

Edit: I quickly looked up Petrus, and it seems confusing. Can't wait to get my Guhong!

LBL = layer by layer
CFOP = cross/first two layers (F2L)/orientation last layer (OLL)/permutation last layer (PLL)
FMC = few move count

I third the motion to learn Petrus. It's a great transition to whatever else you might want to do. Force yourself to practice FMC and aim for somewhere in the 40s (Don't expect to get there overnight.) Doing this would be the fastest way to improve in my opinion.

It is at first but it's worth the effort. You're welcome to PM me with whatever questions you may have. :)
