There is no introduce yourself forum so I guess this will do.
My name is Frank, I recently started cubing. I at first tried solving the cube by myself, but at utter distress fell to having to resort to the internet. I quickly noticed on YouTube that most solvers used the same method. Then after a bit of searching around I came to understand that the Fredrich method was very popular. I learned the beginner method and got bored with it easily, left the cube for a bit. I was unhappy about my solve time since I averaged 1 minute and 40 seconds. So then I moved on to doing the F2L intuitively and quickly learned that my problem was the last layer. I was distraught with having to learn so many PLL's and OLL's. So I picked up the Petrus method. Now I average about 1 minute, but haven't memorized the 28 algorithms. I'm working on building blocks faster and cutting down my F2L to 15 seconds then I will try to learn all 28 algorithms.
I also just learned how to solve the 4x4x4 by watching Pogobats tutorials but was wondering if the only way to improve was by using the same OLL's and PLL's as the 3x3x3?
My favorite cubers are Lars Petrus and Erick(CaptainCrush) from YouTube. I was wondering if there are any Petrus users here and if there are any users that use Petrus in competition? Excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes as I typed this up rather fast and am to lazy to go back and check.
