These forums are degrading

I think another mod will make everything easier, so Statue is now a mod, congratz man. But I think another one will be better for the community.

I personally think that new members should not be able to start new threads until the have reached say 40 posts. Then they would have to do some listening and research a little before they make their repetitive threads. Also, and i mean no offense to whoever made it, but our search function rarely works and could use some sprucing up. Mos people try a simple search, can't find anything on their subject and make a thread.

On phone, can't quote quite how I want to but perhaps you should do some research, the search engine has been improved, and why would you make new members with genuine topics to be made, have to spam 40 posts until they can get their idea out.

I'm guessing you haven't used it lately. It is now Google custom search, people should be able to find stuff now, yet I am still seeing these threads come up.

Not only would this lead to quickly spamming posts, as has already been mentioned, there is also the fact that bad threads are still made by people that have much more than 40 posts. (I have at least a couple in mind but will not mention names in a public thread)

I never noticed it because I gave up using the old search because it never worked. So if I, who frequents the forum daily didn't know, it wouldn't surprise me if others who came before the change would not know as well.

that would probably lead to spamming posts

True, but it would at least limit the amount of repetitive threads that come up . Additionally it would make people actually do some research and be active int he forum before they start making uneducated threads

A grand majority of our new users are either sup 40 or barely sub 30, very few have original ideas or concerns and they could all use some time exploring the website and learning on their own before they start making threads. Additionally, they can get their idea out in a related thread and then after they have discussed it they can then make a thread about it when they reach 40 or so posts. Also, those who "spam" will and should be banned. It is against the rules

In general, this is one way to limit the amount of repetitive and useless threads. Most forums do something like this. Just an idea.

How about all new users, until they reach a certain post-count, have to get their thread approved by a moderator (or someone dedicated to doing this) before it can be posted? Obviously, this isn't a fix-all solution, just an idea to work with.

This is true, but the amount of people making bad threads who have over 40 posts is significantly less then those made by people with lets say 10 or 20. Limiting the thread creating ability to those who have more than 40 posts will stop noobs from creating threads because they are too lazy to do some research.

Sounds like a good median to me, although monitoring this would be quite time consuming.

Needing a thread to be approved could possibly be a solution, but that puts even more work on the mods that I am unsure if they can / would be willing to take on at this time.

You have to remember that moderators already have go through threads and posts to, well, moderate. This may make it easier. It's just an idea.

EDIT: This also isn't for everyone, just new members. To add to my idea, if, say, a new member makes two good threads, they are exempt from having to get their threads approved.

EDIT2: I noticed there's already a rating system for threads in place. Maybe we can take advantage of it; threads are rated, moderators can moderate low-ranking threads and make it easier for themselves. Again, just an idea.

Interesting idea, but how would we keep track of it? I am not sure what tools the mods have, but they would probably have to create a new program to keep track of new members and whether they were exempt or not. I guess they would have to do something similar with my idea, but this idea seems to add a lot of stress on the mods.

If implementing this idea helps cut down on having to moderate dumb threads, it might make it easier. Also, you could have someone that's not a moderator (but still has a good rep / someone who knows what they're doing) in charge of it.

Oh wow, I legitimately haven't noticed that before. I think that this system should be made more apparent and it could become very useful in this regard.

I agree, this rating systen could be a way to self moderate forums. If a forum is doing poorly on reviews, then a moderator could get involved, but if not then they don't need to.

and then we get clan wars where members of a clan give each other high ratings and others low ratings regardless of post quality
