I think I may claim the title of "luckiest, yet unluckiest, solve ever."
After looking at the video, I realize that this looks a lot like e a fake, and I can't do anything from preventing people calling it a fake (my best argument is that if it was fake, I would simply solve until I didn't have a POP). However, I assure you that it is real. I was trying to film a decent average video, and on one attempt, the following was the first scramble:
L2 R2 B2 D U2 L' B' R B' F L2 R' F2 U B2 R' B' F' U' L' R' D U2 B' F
The following was my solution up to PLL:
y x U l' L2 U' F2
x2 R' U R d' L' U L
12 moves to PLL
The U l' was relatively nice, and I saw the L2 after a while.
The double xcross was magically lucky, and the rest of F2L was insane. The first R'UR was actually intended to pair the other slot, and I didn't see the CLS / OLL skip coming until I saw the last pair insertion.
I got to PLL before 4, a Z-perm. I can safely execute a Z-perm sub-2 in a speedsolve, so even with 1-second recognition, this should have been a sub-7 second speedsolve.
Alas, the cube popped. This is my competition speedcube, and it doesn't pop that much, but it did. I'm trying not to be angry.
At least I can claim a 29-more speedsolve solution. I know an HTM/STM optimal Z-perm, though (even if it's only optimal for HTM after AUF), so I can get a 20STM solution:
y x U l' L2 U' F2
x2 R' U R d' L' U L
U M2 u' M2 u S' M2 S
Below is the video:
EDIT (2025): added an inline reconstruction
