The average is 5.34.

I made the cube out of a cube4you type (a). I sanded/cut down the centers and edges to make a sort of sphere. I then glued plastic sheets on the corners to make the "shells." Basically, it turned out nice.

Nice avg dan. Glad it turned out ok! I just totally came across that video by accident, I thought it might give you the motivation you needed!

It's really not hard to make at all. You just have to take your centers and edges and make them into somewhat of a sphere, so that the shells can move over top of them. Then, I cut the plastic sheets into 1 1/32" squares. After some superglue, I was done...

Having lost an edge piece on my black DIY A today and I have a few spare pieces without the right stickers, I think I'll actually do this when I buy a type D to replace it. How to cut down the edges and get stickers for that thing? I still don't know how to get the plastic sheets. What is a hobby shop? Example?

I'll probably order a black (a) DIY for this mod, along with my white ES 5x5, and white (d). How long does it take to mod, and is it worth it?

I spent a Saturday Afternoon on it. It's not hard to do, all you need is the right tools to sand down the edges. That's also what takes the longest, so if you don't have a good way to do it, it'll take that much longer. IT'S DEFINITELY WORTH IT!
