[Unofficial] Master Magic: 2.12 avg12, 1.77 single

3 people who have gotten WRs that posted in this thread.
Hey! :O But really, don't you think at some point getting WRs has to be attributed to all-around skill or luck? I find that the key to me is not "don't go for a record", but "concentrate on the solve and pretend it's practice". What screws *me* up is either focusing on something other than the cube, or trying to go faster than I consistently can.

Honestly, I think for Magic-type events you kinda do have to "go for the WR" - a specific WR, either the single or average. Unless you are getting your absolute best times almost every time, you can't really do both. I don't mean to focus on the WR, because that takes concentration away from the solve, but I mean you can do better if you approach your solves in a certain way. Ernie seems to have an easier time getting the average, so he should focus on consistency, and try for 4-5 good solves rather than going at absolute maximum speed.

Attempt WR = the case at all competition solves everyone ever does. Therefore saying you might do a WR attempt only means 'going to a competition'.
Secondly, if you only think and worry about a WR you'll just make yourself nervous for nothing and it'll not work.
Maybe Ernie's speed is WR-worthy, but his way of thinking about WR's isn't (yet).

Happy WR-ing.

You clearly misunderstood his message.

Exactly! Before Feliks' first world record many, many people told him to go for WR, even he commented on Tomasz' WR avg that he will try to break it. I remember I told him to forget it, and stop thinking about breaking the WR, that's not how it works... He took the advice, and big surprise he broke the WR next time. I'm not saying I have anything to do with his record, but I'm saying that even Feliks failed when he was nervously focusing on breaking the WR.

next time? But that was his first competition with the pressure of possibly breaking the WR. The competition before that he was averaging 13 seconds like a year before

I was talking about the competition before too! Where he did 10.05 single and 12.55 average. Many expected him to do WR right there. But mainly, yeah the competition where he did the 9.21 average.
