New to The Cube...

I began using The Cube about two to three months ago.
I started with a Rubik's brand 3x3 purchased at a retail store.
I'm sure I'm obsessed. I've solved it hundreds of times now, and I can't just watch things on TV, or simply hang out with friends anymore. I have to have a cube in hand while doing anything that does not require my hands to be free. It has even cut into my one book a week reading habit!
I enjoy taking it apart, cleaning it, lubricating it, reassembling it and then giving it a go.
I've acquired a few more cubes over the past couple of months. A white DIY A-IV and an East Sheen 2x2 from cube4you. Assembling the DIY was a blast, I was sad to see it completed, but really enjoy using it, though not as much as the Rubik's brand cube oddly enough. I've also ordered a Haiyan Cube- Memory that I am still waiting for.
My times for the 2x2 and 3x3 are by no means record breaking, but I am alright with that, I'm mainly happy just be able to solve them.
My best time so far for a 3x3 is 2 minutes 21 seconds, and my best time for my 2x2 is 36 seconds.
I don't time myself often, just sporadically, and just out of curiosity, however I think that beating a 3x3 in under a minute is an achievable goal for myself.
I haven't learned any of the more complex algorithms yet, I've just been using the layer method that came with the cube in a pamphlet, but I think that very soon I will try to learn a method which will hopefully result is a faster solve time.
Well, as I said, I'm obsessed. If I'm not solving The Cube, I'm reading about it online, and not just about quickly solving it, but about everything cube related, such as modding, lubrication, sanding, cube types (A, B, C, D, etc... which I'm still not sure I entirely understand), manufactures, DIY cubes, online stores, reviews, making interesting patterns... Well, a lot of my (Google) search results had information from this forum, and so I've finally decided to join after reading quite a bit on here over the past several weeks.

I am looking forward to conversing with those similarly obsessed, and if you've actually read this entire post, I'm very appreciative for the time you've taken to do so, and I commend you on your patience lol

Too late to ignore it :)
I already googled it and was redirected back to this site lol
In your opinion it is not essential to have an Edison cube then?

Haha, it is not essential at your level to have any cube other then a store bought, and even if you were more advanced, edisons are regarded as pretty meh.

Lol.

Anyway, don't worry about getting a cube right now. When your over a minute, just about anything you do can drop your time. Practice, learn some algs, look into F2L. Good luck.

F2L is the best way to proceed then?

proportionally, not very many people use an edison. I know I will never get one in my life. I use an F-II, Feliks's world record I believe was with a Dayan Guhong.

First off, welcome to the forms! Also, I agree with them. There are much better options than an Edison. Also, don't rush to get a new cube. I went sub-40 with my storebought, and now can usually get sub-35 solves with it. F2L is your next step in the journey. Learn it well, practice just the f2l part (cross + all 4 pairs) until you are comfortable with it, and watch your times plummet! Good luck!

as everyone said, welcome to the forum, and welcome to the addiction jejejeje, as you, i've been playing with the cube for almost a year, is soo addictive, and i can't be any day with no cubbing, so i can tell you the best thing to do now is try the different methods to solve the cube and start learning the one that you liked most, or just see videos and choose a method and start practicing, learning the algs is really fun, and when you feel fast start timing yourself, you will be really happy when you see how your times get down, and the most important is practice, practice and practice. (and sorry for my english if i wrote something wrong lol)

oh yeah, forgot to mention in my earlier posts, I got sub-25 with my storebought Rubik's brand, and I know of others that got faster with it. New cubes are 100% unnecessary unless you are going for sub-10 times. (now watch feliks do a sub-10 avg with rubik's brand...)

What about the fun in getting, and sometimes assembling a new cube? That great feeling you get from adding one to your collection? Stop telling people what to do, give them their options and let them decide.

sorry, I am not really familiar with this feeling. I have only once gotten a new 3x3, and that was because my original storebought was falling apart.

Stop telling people what to do, give them their options and let them decide.

I did not tell people what to do, I did not say in my post "DO NOT BUY NEW CUBE OR I WILL DO SOMETHING BAD TO YOU"
I said, "New cubes are 100% unnecessary unless you are going for sub-10 times," which is a fact, because sub-15 can be done with Rubik's storebought.

Agree. That and beginner's method isn't tragic either. I learned F2L after averaging 40 seconds with the beginner's method on a well-lubed storebought.
