Hi everyone, here's my first cubing thread:

I've had the V 5 for about two weeks now, roughly 150 solves, and I'm having a few issues:

1. The stickers chip far too easily. Is this normal? For me, the V6, and 7 are fine, it seems to be a v5 issue.

2. The cube is really quite stiff... I looked around the forum so I didn't expect it to be fast out of the box, but after so many solves, it's still rather disappointing, again, v7 is really nice.

3. Finger tricks. I have short nails, yet I can't help noticing that my nail still gets caught on the stickers. How exactly are finger tricks done on this?! Should I be holding my index finger at a 45 degree angle to the U face, or parallel?

Sorry, if I somehow failed to see these threads elsewhere, but I would like to know if any of you have similar experiences, and if so, how did you overcome them.

Thank you in advance!

I haven't modded the corners. How much did it help you personally? I've heard really great things to "nothing really happens." And thanks for the finger trick answer, that shall help quite a bit.

I've just started 5x5. I'm around 4 minutes :fp haha, but I'm improving maybe 10 seconds each day.

Thanks a bunch for the tips!

Your v5 will get better, just use it lots and it turns out really nice.:D

Modifying the corner stock makes a great deal of difference IMO.
Definitely worth doing since it's fairly quick and easy to do,
at least in comparison to MMaP's V-6 mod.
Make sure you do a good job of it and finish it with wet and dry sandpaper
or a polishing bit on a rotary tool (Dremel).
A rushed job will work too but it won't be a lot more effort to do it properly.
Because you are removing some of the cube it also loosens up slightly.

Some really great tips here. Thank you.

I don't have a Dremel, but I have plenty of sandpaper, so I'll probably do the corner mod.

Does a knife make a huge difference, or will sandpaper suffice? I saw MMaP's vid on modding the corners, and I'm a little skeptical on the actual effects of the blade.

I used a Dremel but I tried a knife for the 1st one, I failed.
It didn't seem to be an effective technique to me.
If you use very rough sandpaper to start with to get most of the work done
then work your way down to wet and dry it shouldn't take too long.
If you use a medium grit it'll take longer.
