Couple questions

So, from my experience (been cubing and using mainly oil as lubricant for almost 3 years), oil is in all ways superior to silicone. (Only possible drawback is that it needs to be applied more often, but lubing takes much less than 0.5% of my cubing time so I think it isn't a real problem.) Then a random beginner cuber comes to say that oils *will* destroy my cube, even though I can't notice any damage after a much longer time than what should be enough to destroy the cube completely. Should I believe him and consider myself extremely lucky for still having cubes that work, or should I assume he doesn't know what he's talking about? I choose the latter.

And Chinese DIYs are very cheap, if using oil means that I have to pick a new main speedcube every 2 years or so, I think it's not that bad.

Okay well you have a point. Some people exaggerate about the negative effects of oil as a lubricant but it seems you have proved some people wrong. A lot of people use silicone or they don't use oil as a lubricant so...

PC: You're saying I should learn F2L first before PLL's and OLL's... so I should start memorizing cases and their respected algorithms for F2L then?

Uhhh... no. Here I'll make it more clear.

You first want to learn 4 Look Last Layer, which means orient the edges, then orient the corners, then permute the corners, then permute the edges. That means doing the last layer in 4 steps.

Next, you want to learn INUITIVE F2L. That means doing F2L with no algorithms, or logically. Here's a video on how to learn/do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-xbcAMfWwM

Then your learn the rest of the OLL and PLL, solving the last layer in 2 steps. (2 Look Last Layer)

If you haven't already, look at thisthread for a a great guide on how to learn the Fridrich Method. It goes into detail, and it's still in its drafting process.

Ok, ok I have it now :P And for the 4 Look Last Layer, I'm just using your site... great job on it, by the way.

Also, I just ordered a black DIYKit cube (and a Eastsheen 2x2x2 to learn) so my times should come down a bit when I get it and correctly lube it.

Thanks for commenting about my site! I'm glad someone actually likes it :d (you're one of the only few people who say it's good) and I'm still adding stuff to it and I'll try to make it better.

You're lucky you're getting a DIY cube... I don't have one!!!! :(

Just got 1:11.81 without the 4 Look Last Layer, still working on the algorithms and memorizing them.

pcwiz and johannes91, could we please just conclude that, while everyone has their own personal lubricant preference, SOME people claim that silicone is superior to oils. For example, I remain undecided, as olive oil and silicone seem to work the same for me.

Snipermtd24: Great job on that time! I suggest learning COLL (completing the corners and thus the top side) before the EPLL and CPLLs.

Ok, so new best time is 1:10.89 and I started to learn intuitive F2L, just to see if I could do it, and for the most part I can.. but when I get one pair done and inserted, I put the second pair in and it messes the other pair up... anyone want to clarify as to why that may be?

Okay, yeah I think I see now. I just need to go find the "intuitive algorithm" for inserting pairs when the cross color is in the U layer and I think I'll have it.

Yes, when you're doing intuitive F2L, you hide a corner piece so you can bring the edge together. But when you hide a corner, you the other corner on the other side of the corner you are hiding is moved. So make sure that other corner is not already in it's correct position. For more detail and less confusion, look at some other intuitive F2L videos, as they may explain this too.

Okay you probably already know what I just said before, but you may be wondering about how it takes a long time to look at your cube and try not to mess it up. There are some "rules" you can find explained on some other intuitive F2L videos, and when you follow them it always works! Also, you will eventually get to intuitive F2L that you already memorize which pair is already in the right spot and other things that you barely have to think about it! Come up with your own tricks, and just practice! It will be stressful at first, as it will slow you down, but later on, it's going to help you!

You're messing up the other pair because you're bringing that same pair to the top layer to insert your new pair.

Hope that made sense?

Yeah, I have it now.. I can get the F2L intuitively now (just slowly :P). Gonna work on that and the 4 Look Last Layer now.

Thanks for all the advice.

EDIT:
HOLY HELL! Just got a 49.17 solve using still the beginners method... I guess you could call it either luck or just plain improvement.. but either way I'm ecstatic right now. Back to practicing :P
