hi all
i'm quite new to speedcubing and i just want to find out how to solve my 3x3 faster (at the moment i've got a whizz toys 3x3 cube to practice on before i get a new rubiks cube as the old one broke :() I lubricated it and i have noticed its easier to turn.
Also has anyone got a recommended speedcubing method??

Andrew

Fridrich is the most common (also known as CFOP).

ZZ has potential to be super fast but also has a crap ton of algs to learn.

Roux is gaining popularity; uses blockbuilding and M-slices more.

Petrus isn't very common; uses blockbuilding

It's very possible to get sub-20 with any of these (and more) but Fridrich and Roux are the most popular.

Now now, remember there is a distinction between ZZ and ZB, and 'last layer methods' and 'full methods' ;)

@OP: If you're new to speedcubing I suggest you browse around some old topics here and on the wiki to get a feel of the methods that are used.

Fingertricks. Integrate all the algorithms you know into muscle memory so you're barely thinking while solving.

What a ton of crap :rolleyes:

ZZ has much fewer algs to learn than Fridrich for a 2-look last layer ... as in 28 for OCLL/PLL, compared to the 78 required for full OLL/PLL!

I don't know much about ZZ :fp but isn't there an EOline that takes FOREVER to master?

@hobby boy
And if you need any help go to the wiki!
CFOP: cross, corner-edge pair X4, orientation of last layer, permutation of last layer, basically the most common method
Petrus: blockbuilding to achieve 2X2X3, edge flips, 2-gen corner-edge pair X2, COLL or just orientation of last layer, EPLL or just permutation of last layer, a lot of R and U face turns, which can be preformed very quickly
Roux: blockbuilding, CLL, and then all this M U stuff, very fast if you're good at blockbuilding and M and U turns
I'll add more later, Ask questions if you can't understand anything, it wont hurt. ;)

But ideally you should probably learn COLL (40 instead of 7). :D

I wouldn't exactly recommend ZZ for a beginners method unless you're willing to work hard to master EOLine though.

excatly! the EOLine is pretty darn complicated and is a HUGE disadvantage for bigcubes! And is ZZ like this:
1. EOLine
2. 3-gen F2L
3. OLL
4. PLL
or is it one of those special things ?
3'. COLL/ZBLL
4'. EPLL/solved
I really need to review alotof methods

I use Petrus sometimes if I don't feel like using Fridrich...I'm not quite as fast with it (perhaps 50 seconds-1 minute), but practice makes you better at everything.

My advice is to learn intuitive F2L and then practice like crazy.

I'm not sure if COLL/EPLL is necessarily an advantage over OCLL/PLL. For your slower OCLL's it probably is, but I don't see an advantage in using COLL for cases like sune/anti-sune. Currently I use a mix of the two which I think for me personally is fastest. That said, OCLL/PLL is still very fast and will most likely out preform CFOP's OLL/PLL, while using just over a third of the algs.

I won't deny that EOLine is difficult, but what's wrong with starting with EO+Line? It's not like beginners start Fridrich with XCross!

@Sharkretriver, you don't use OLL/PLL in ZZ ... it's OCLL/PLL (big difference).

Petrus isn't very common

Disagree. I'd say it's the second most popular method.

Me too. And so does this poll.
