So...Are non-Rubik's cubes all illegal.

If deepSubDiver's comment is true, their trademark is awfully specific. We can still buy white cubes, anything that doesn't come with pre-applied stickers, DIY kits, all puzzles but 2x2 through 5x5, all shape mods, or anything with a nonstandard sticker pattern (purple instead of orange, black instead of white...).

I wish SevenTowns would spend less time trying to prevent anyone from selling cubes and more time trying to make their puzzles turn well. There are so many copies precisely because there's demand which SevenTowns can't (or won't, as I see it) satisfy. How many top speedcubers only use official Rubik's products? To me SevenTowns has alienated the very people who ought to be their biggest supporters.

Well said.

"In this way we are safeguarding both our intellectual property and the creative development of the Rubik’s brand for future generations to experience and enjoy to the full." Yeah, future generations of the boss. If they are really aimed at DIY's and the such, then I cannot believe how oblivious the head-honcho is to his own sport.

I bet he can't even solve a Rubik's Cube :p

Reading this thread title, I was thinking it was another noob saying "UHHHH, ALL CUEBS NOT RUBIX IS KNOCK OFF!!!!!"
And then I see an ARTICLE.
Why can't those people leave the company alone...
And yeah, Kirjava, i agree.

There are probably some companies that say they are Rubik's brands. That would be a really bad idea, because Rubik's is a piece of Yup...

EDIT: Also, the patent expired. Even if it didn't expire, brands like ES, GH, mefferts, QJ, Sheng En, and Haiyan/Alpha use different mechanisms. I still can't stop thinking about how horrible Rubik's is.
